A Legal Stone Rolling Over Lil’ Wayne

This is a follow up to the May 30, 2008 article Rapper Lil Wayne Sued For Copyright Infringement. Lil Wayne has been sued again for copyright infringement, revealing this is clearly a habit. This time he’s been sued by the Rolling Stones’ publisher for ripping off their music.

Stealing from one of the most well known bands on the planet is not a good idea, as that pretty much guarantees everyone will know.

Lil’ Wayne faces copyright claim

US rapper Lil’ Wayne has been sued by a music publishing company over claims he released a version of Rolling Stones song Play With Fire without permission.

Abkco Music Inc have said that Lil’ Wayne’s Playing with Fire was clearly derived from the Stones’ original but used “explicit and offensive language”.

They accuse the rapper of copyright infringement and unfair competition.

A spokesman for Lil’ Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter, was unavailable for comment.

I think rappers are running out of products to promote and make money off of these days. What ever happened to promoting premium liquors, high end cigars, expensive cologne and flashy cars that no normal music fan could afford? Did someone fianally realize that it actually makes sense to have rappers promote a product that relate to their art form and fan base?

Well it seems like Jay-Z and Dr. Dre are thinking clearly since they both have their own signature line of headphones dropping in the near future. With the ridiculous popularity of the iPod/iPhone, people are willing to pay hundreds of dollars for high quality accessories to go along with it.

I can't think of any other line of headphones with a celebrity endorsement so it was just a matter of time before someone thought that this would be a good idea. Actually, it's a PERFECT idea. If you see Dre or Jigga wearing his headphones in the studio, you know they're good so you are going to want a pair too. Even though both will probably be fairly expensive headphones compared to most, it's still a somewhat affordable product for a good majority of fans. I might have to get a pair of Dre's for the lab and a pair of Jay's for the street. Holla!

50 Cent has been crowned #1 Hip Hop Cash King by Forbes. Deservingly he has been hard at work earning earning $150 million over the past 12 months. 50 Cent portfolio was based on album sales, including his most recent platinum selling Curtis album; $100 million after taxes he received in lucrative deal with Vitamin Water.

50 Cent has not stopped yet he is working on a mining partnership with South African billionaire Patrice Motsepe.

Jay-Z was number #1 last year but was totally bumped by 50 Cent. Jay-Z really had good financial year. He landed a deal worth $150 million with Live Nation, which includes $82 million dollars from his American Gangster album, Live Nation deal and other business ventures.

With Tha Carter III hitting retail stores nationwide today, Diddy is the first to co-sign Lil' Wayne's latest project calling it a "classic" and claiming the rapper has helped him fall in love with hip-hop again.In his latest video blog, the Bad Boy president admitted to being surprised at Weezy's talent and the overall quality of the new album."The Lil' Wayne album-you know a lot of times when you get a lot of hype on cats, they don't really deliver," he said. "I was totally surprised by his selection of beats, his variation of flows and his content. The boy really delivered. He's a genius. The album's genius. It's a classic."
