Last week was one of mixed emotions for me. On Wednesday the team played Puerto Rico Mayaguez. The team played very well. Hans Schur had a big scoring night, dropping 25 points, while Michael Baptiste had a huge night off the bench scoring 17 points and providing a much needed spark. Coach McMillin moved to 4-0 against Puerto Rico Mayaguez.

Thursday was Thanksgiving, as I’m sure you know. I started the day off with practice. Then afterwards, we as a team went to dinner at Legal Seafood, then after we got back to school, I went to my cousin’s grandmothers for another dinner. I had an amazing meal of turkey, this special cornbread, and sweet potatoes with marshmellows on top! After i left I didn’t think I could eat for days.

Friday we had a morning practice, then I watched the Arkansas-LSU game, or the Battle for the Golden Boot. It was an amazing game. Darren McFadden had a huge day, so did Peyton Hillis and Felix Jones. I screamed for joy so loud when Mattarel Richardson picked off the pass in the back of the end zone to end the game. As soon as the game was over, my dad and I were on the phone talking about the game and how great it was.

Saturday we played Christian Brothers. We started off great, keeping their offense at bay for a majority of the game. At the end of the game, their offense started to click and the hit a fade-away three pointer with 6 seconds left in the game. Randy Jones just missed a long distance three pointer at the buzzer.

Due to Randy’s performance last week, he was named the Lynn Male Athlete of the Week.

UNC, UCLA, Texas A&M All Lose In Men's NCAA TOP 25

Well it looks like the college basketball season has started to emulate the college football season, where upsets riddle the Top 25, as No.1 North Carolina, No.4 UCLA, No.9 Texas A&M;, No.15 Ole Miss, and No. 16 Pitt all lost on Saturday. For North Carolina, the loss ends their unbeaten season and brings them back down to earth in the ACC. This reminds me of what we dealt with in football. The difference is in Hoops...we will settle it all on the court come March, while in football, teams are still crying they belonged in the BCS Title Game. As we get into the heart of these conference schedules, we will see more and more upsets. In the mean time, our HDTV's are being fully enjoyed with college hoops!

1st Game

I can’t believe we are 3 days from playing our first game of the season. Our first game is against Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach. Last year, we beat Bethune in a good game and I think this year will be another good game. That game will be on Saturday November 3rd. Then on Monday, we have the honor of going to Gainsville to play the two-time defending champion University of Florida Gators. I can’t wait for this game because hopefully, I can meet Billy Donovan. I think he is a great coach and if I ever had the opportunity to pick his brain on coaching it would be such an honor. So

Then on November 15th we have our first non-Exhibition game against St. Thomas. That game will be at school. I have a new suit I bought this summer which I’m going to debut at this game.

But before all of this, November 1st is Hoop-La. Which is our version of Midnight Madness. At this, the fans will be given a preview of our team and the womens’ team as well as performances by the Lynn Cheerleaders and Dance Team. There is a chance for someone to win $10,000.

To me, the beginning of the year is the best since everybody is in their best form and ready to go against other teams rather than each other.

AP TOP 25 Mens Basketball, Syracuse Orange Update!

The AP Top 25 NCAA Men's Basketball Poll is out for December 17, 2007 and not much has changed, in fact the Top 15 teams are exactly the same as last week. The 3 newcomers to the poll are Miami (FL), West Virginia, and USC. Of course the favorite team of Mud Free Sports is the Orange of Syracuse who had a big time set back on Saturday as Guard Eric Devendorf is out for the year, joining Andy Rautins on the P.U.P. list. This means that Syracuse could go to an Junior to run the point. Walk-On Justin Thomas may see more playing time or maybe they go to a lineup with Scoop Jardine in the lineup.

February 4th TOP 25, Duke vs. North Carolina Wednesday Night

The Top 25 for the Men's NCAA Basketball Week of February 4, 2008 is out and not surprisingly, the Kansas Jayhawks dropped down after their loss to Kansas State. The Big Game this week in Duke at North Carolina on Wednesday Night in Chapel Hill on ESPN. In the Big East, the surging UCONN Huskies travel to Syracuse to take on the Orange in the Carrier Dome. No. 1 Memphis has an easy schedule this week taking on SMU and UCF who are a combined 18-22. Lots of highlights should be coming out of the UNC/DUKE game, so stay tuned!
