Natasha Galkina came to fame as a contestant in last year’s American’s Next Top Model, Cycle 8. Natasha started out as one of the weakest contestants in the pack, just narrowly avoiding elimination in the second episode, but after her near miss she quickly became one of the strongest models in the competition. She won over the show’s judges as well as their viewers earning her the title of Covergirl of the Week / viewer favorite 3 different weeks as the season aired. Her positive attitude, optimistic outlook on life, and bright smile took her all the way through the competition to a spot in the final two. In the end her catwalk skills were not strong enough to take the crown and Natasha was named runner-up.

Beautiful and sexy Natasha was born in 1985 in the city of Rostov, Russia. She moved to Moscow as a teen to attend university there. Natasha married American Stuart Hagler, 21 years her senior, when she was nearly 20 years old. They started communicating when she was 18 and living in Moscow where he visited her and continued their international romance for nearly a year before finally tying the knot.

When asked about her marriage she says, “You know, we have a great relationship with my husband. We met like other people meet each other. It was natural, we dated for a little bit less than a year, and I got married when I was almost 20 and after the year from the date of our marriage, and I got the beautiful baby and I was very, very happy with him. He’s very romantic, he’s very nice, he takes care of me and he loves me to death and I love him very much.”

Natasha moved from Moscow to Richardson, Texas where she married Stuart. A year later Natasha gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Angelina. They are still happily married and living in Richardson, TX, with their daughter, to this day.

How does she react to being called a Mail Order Bride? “… when they said ‘mail-order bride‘ I didn’t even know what that was! I had to have someone tell me. And that’s not what I am. You know how these men do intercontinental stuff? We dated before I came over to America.”

Even though she was born and raised in Russia Natasha says she considers herself american because, “I’m in America and I want to represent America because this is the country that changed my life”.

Since the TV show has ended she has landed a contract with Muse NYC models and has shot covers for both Modern Luxury Houston and DC magazines. She also has been approached with several television offers and we expect to see her returning to television in the near future.

BuddyTV: Can you start off by telling us how you got to be on America’s Next Top Model? How did it all start for you?

Natasha: Gosh it’s a long story, do you have time? Well, becoming a model was always a dream and I love America’s Next Top Model. I always wanted to be on the show and they would never have the casting calls in Dallas when I lived there. So the closest one was 100 hundred miles away on the border of Oklahoma and Texas and I decided to go there because I didn’t have anything to do, it was the middle of August. So I just drove a hundred miles there and I came and I was like, “Oh my God, so many girls showed up. No way I’m going to be chosen, you know?” So I tried and I went back home and I received the call and they said, “You are the winner! So come on up here again and you have an interview with us.” So I was very excited to go there, and I met so many so people from CW and they were very, very nice to me. So when I came up there, I was like, “Where are the other girls? The other winners?” And they’re like, “There’s no, you are the only one.” And it was just so exciting and that’s just a little story.

Did you think you were going to make it as far as you did in this competition?

I was always hoping to make it as far as possible. I tried to work as hard as possible and learn and I really would try to remember what every judge would say about me and what they tried to correct and work on. And I think that the judges saw it and I think that they saw that I was improving and that’s why I made it so far.

Everyone's favorite mail order bride from Cycle 8 of America's Next Top Model?

She was always one of my favorites...whether it was pretending she had a green card, or making up imaginary babies to talk on the phone to, or taking really good pictures in which you can't pinpoint what's creeping you out about it...

Well anyways, I recently saw a nice mini-interview with her EW's website, and here's what she had to say:
''I feel as though I can't really sit around without doing anything,'' she says, ''and I decided to take some classes. Because I work full time as a model and am a full-time mom, I cannot just go and enroll in university and be a full-time student. So I enroll when I can. It's fast-track, so I'm gonna go back to New York in a couple of weeks — hopefully it will get warmer.''

How interesting...I guess.

Natasha Galkina: first runner up of season eight, Russian mail-order bride, fabulous

модель (model)...in any language, she was memorable. Even though cycle eight is over and done with, she hasn't dissapeared yet!
     One of the things that I thought made an impression upon me about Nata was her spirit. Tyra said she had an "infectous smile." I can't say I dissagree.
     Another thing that I will always remember about our Nata is her poise. She held her poise even until the end, when Jaslene won. Largely contributing to that is her presence in a room: she has the presense a model should when entering a room, anywhere.
     The girls had some harsh words for her: they accused her of being fake. Natasha didn't wear wedding bands, and she never seemed to have photos of her husband and children. This, added to the peculiar age difference between Nata and her husband, (22 years) led the girls to believe she was lying about the whole thing. The girls also ganged up on Natasha (Renee, the instigator, followed by Dion and Jaslene) during the top four. Natasha amazed me with her ability to maintain her composure and not let these events affect her performance.
     Natasha realized that her career was not over just because she didn't win the competition. From the start, even during the audition stage, she had dreams of making it to the top. Being first runner-up is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of; rather, something to celebrate. Natasha Galkina realized that, and I believe that even as Jaslene took first place, Nata fans from around the world were proud of their girl.
