posted by jwhitney114

In my opinion firearms are the fastest and cheapest way to protect you and your family. I am a strong believer that firearms actually save more lives than they take. In reality they are used to prevent about 75 crimes for each death. Firearms prevent far more deaths than they cause. (Gary Kleck, "Point Blank: Guns and Violence in America," Hawthorne, N.Y., Aldine de Gruyter Publisher, 1991)

The actual problem with firearms is not with the firearm itself, but with the owner of the firearm. I am a firm believer in "Guns don't kill people, people kill people". The fact is the more people that have firearms the safer you are. This has been proven without a doubt by, (John R. Lott Jr., "More Guns Less Crime," University of Chicago Press, 1998).

History supports this fact, firearm-crime relationship. In "Firearms Control – A Study of Armed Crime and Firearms Control" in England and Wales (London, Routledge & Kegan Paul, 1972, p. 243), Chief Inspector Colin Greenwood found that:

No matter how one approaches the figures, one is forced to the rather startling conclusion that the use of firearms in crime was very much less when there were no controls of any sort. … Half a century of strict controls on pistols has ended, perversely, with a far greater use of this class of weapons in crime than ever before.

In most cases criminals that act out in violence with the use of firearms tend to target people and areas that do not contain firearms. They prey on the weak basically . This should tell you that arming yourself is the most affordable and practical way to defend you and your family against crime.
