Spiritual teacher & New York times best-selling author Eckhart Tolle has found himself directly in the middle of an evangelical defamation campaign. While teaching his book A New Earth with Oprah Winfrey, highly organized evangelical creationists have bombarded Oprah’s message boards with hundreds of thousands of derogatory comments and apocalyptic warnings about Eckhart’s simultaneous embrace of evolution and the teachings of Jesus.

Millions View Video of Talk Show Host Oprah Winfrey's Denial of Christ

A new video which features popular talk show host Oprah Winfrey denying Jesus as the only way to God has received over 5 million views on several reporting video sites.

The approximately seven-minute video entitled, "The Church of Oprah Exposed," was posted less than a month ago and has claimed the a Top Favorites spot in the News & Politics category of a popular social networking site.

According to reports, many of the latest visitor streams come from PerezHilton.com, a Hollywood gossip blog, whose author wrote that "crazy Christians" are trying to demonize Oprah as a "conduit of evil."

However, the 'new age' philosophy the video attributes Oprah with spreading has been a cause of concern for many Christians for some time. Many believe the day-time host is leading many into spiritual confusion by distorting the gospel message of Christianity.

One pastor likened Oprah's 'many ways to God' approach as a 'blind man' drawing close to the edge of a dangerous cliff. "She holds the trendy idea that religions are essentially the same," writes Steven W. Cornell, a Pennsylvania-based pastor.

"She irrationally romanticizes the notion that God can be whatever you want him/her/it to be," Cornell continues to write.

During the video, viewers are shown a clip of a previous show where Oprah blatantly denies Jesus as the only way to God. "How can there be only one way to heaven or to God?" Oprah asked the audience. When asked by a woman in the audience, "What about Jesus?" Oprah responded, "What about Jesus? There couldn't possibly be one way."

The video's primary focus seems to be targeted at Oprah's recent Webinar class, where she is promoting Eckhart Tolle's new book entitled, "New Earth."

With Tolle as a guest, Oprah explains how her view of God and the spiritual teachings of Christianity changed in her late 20's after hearing a preacher describe God as a 'jealous' God. Shesaid that by opening her mind to the "hugeness" of God, she wasable to accept the notion that God is not jealous, but rather a "God of love."

"God is a feeling experience," Oprah said in the popular YouTube video, "not a believing experience. If your religion is abelieving experience... that's not truly God," she says.

Christian radio talk show host Frank Pastore, is one of many Christian leaders who has spoken out on Oprah's views, saying that her worldview is irreconcilable with that of Christianity. "If she's a Christian, she's an ignorant one, because Christianity is incompatible with New Age thought," Pastore wrote on Crosswalk.

LivePrayer.com founder Bill Keller, an internet-based program on faith and values, believes Oprah may be starting her 'own cult.'

When speaking with the Celebrity News Service, Keller said, "She has an incredible amount of influence over people and an incredible following."

"I believe these New Age teachings are like 'spiritual crack' because people are hungry," Keller continued to say. "The teachings satisfy...(but) then they are hungry again."

Keller joins many Christian leaders who believe people are afraid to challenge Oprah because of her power, but expect more to question her teachings over the few months.

This afternoon I told a friend, in a mistakenly excited tone, that today was the season premiere of The Oprah Winfrey Show. He slapped me.
And as I tried to ignore his repeated attempts to create rhythmic phrases using my name and colorful descriptions of the female anatomy while also trying to tune out the collective laughter of the crowd around us, I held on to 4 pm CST when all of it would be worth it. Today was the beginning of another year of the perplexing womanly perspective that is The Oprah Winfrey Show.
(insert long uncomfortable pause here)
It seems as though I "inaccurately viewed" Friday's preview. Or as my wife so affectionately put it, "You're a guy. You don't pay attention to the details."
That shot across the bow was for not helping you fold the laundry, wasn't it?
It turns out fate would have a hearty chuckle at my expense as well. This is the season premiere. For last season. Damn you DVR. Damn you reruns. My jaw aches and my pride is wounded because of you. Happy freaking Monday.
On today's episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, O sets up shop in NYC and invites late-night king, David Letterman to sit down and rap about life like only Letterman can. And Lisa Marie Presley joins the show, sings and inspires at least one viewer at home to whisper, "What?"
Segment 1: David Letterman
We hit the ground running this evening as the vaunted "triple Woot" makes a rare, yet significant appearance.
Winfrey Woot 1: "Hellooooooooooooo New Yoooooooooooooork Cityyyyyyyyyyyyyy."
And because it sounded so good the first time.
Winfrey Woot 2: "Hellooooooooooooo New Yoooooooooooooork Cityyyyyyyyyyyyyy."
Winfrey Woot 3: "New Yooooooooooooork Cityyyyyyyyyyyyyyy."
The two exchange some pleasantries and small talk. Nothing out of the ordinary until something on Dave's right eyeglass lens catches my wife's eye then mine. A glare? A smudge? Is it, as my wife alluded to, some weird Andy Rooney-esque frobrow?
It begins to monopolize my attention. My mind gradually tunes out sounds, tastes, feelings and other sensations. My vision begins to dim as I concentrate my gaze. I am oblivious to my surroundings. It calls to me. Like a train wreck, Petra Nemcova or every member of the Hogan family.
It's a foggy lens. Crisis averted.
It would be David Letterman with a Top Ten list.
Top Ten Reasons David Letterman Loves Oprah
10. She smells great. 9. Without her, we wouldn't know that quack Dr. Phil. 8. She helped me start my wildly popular, D Magazine. 7. We're yoga buddies. 6. Oprah's incredibly busy, but still finds time to ignore my calls. 5. She agreed to validate my parking. 4. She taught me how to launder money in the Cayman Islands. 3. Anytime I'm in Chicago, she lets me crash on her couch. 2. Oprah gave me my first post-surgery sponge bath. 1. She's giving everyone in today's audience a new house.
Thirteen minutes in. Lens still foggy. Crisis re-engaged.
Segment 2: More Dave
Regis Philbin welcomes us back and offers up a few quick jokes at Dave's expense. He laughs. No one else does. It's the 20-second equivalent of being tickled with razor blades. Yes, it was that funny.
But catch your breath and wipe away the tears because this comedic gem was unveiled for the true enjoyment of all. And you just thought it had been completely erased for your mind or buried somewhere so deep, so dark, you would never find it again.
Dave pulls back the curtain a bit. He says he's softened with the relatively recent birth of his son. Oprah tells him 60 is the new 40. He announces that Regis' 90 must be the new 60. Funny. It's here that you should realize, yes, there are a few things every one of us in the male viewership would love to know.
1) Who's the hottest guest you've ever had on your show?2) Could you take Stern in an arm wrestling match?3) Who's in your ultimate fight club? Leno or Rosie?
This is the type of mind-wasting information to which the foundation of our masculine gender rests. But this show is not for us. It's for everyone else. Which is why we see pictures of his son, followed by the universal "awwwwww." We hear stories about weekend bug collecting excursions and watching airplanes. We even learn about "the naughty chair." But not in a way that any of us would find amusing, entertaining or idea provoking.
Still foggy. Seriously.
Segment 3: And more Dave
David Letterman is one of my favorite comedians. Dry, sarcastic and quite happy portraying the image of "I could really care less." At least that's the impression. But tonight, he says that the most pressure he puts on himself is to make sure the people "who invest their time and money with me, go home happy."
A recently reviewed "comedian" should adopt a similar credo. Actually, a lot of them should. And so should waiters, hostesses, mechanics, grocery store checkout employees, bosses, concession stand employees and anyone else in the customer "service" industry.
One of the funnier lines of the night:
Dave: "The further north you go, the more things that can eat your horse."
Winfrey Woot 4: "New York Cityyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy."
Just in case the previous three segments, gigantic Manhattan stage scene and blinking "New York City" text at the beginning and end of each segment weren't enough.
Segment 4: And even more Dave
No longer can I focus on the show. I think there was a mention of the Communications building at Dave's alma matter, the awkwardly named Ball State University, being named after him. My mind begins to race.
The foggy lens taunts me like a playground bully. I have flashbacks of being covered in dirt and Capri Sun. "Why won't he wipe it," my mind screams? It is beyond my comprehension. And I know that of what I speak. Dave and I are are a part of the same ocularly-challenged fraternity.
In college, I some time in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Not "time" in a carving weapons out of toothbrushes sort of way. I was in an immersion school learning Spanish. This will make sense in a minute, I promise. A great six weeks. A good friend of mine and I lived with a family, lived the culture, drank the beer and were assaulted, on a nightly basis, by the most ruthless, most hated, most evil, most awful flying bugs in the world.
EVERY night, around 2, I would wake up to a high-pitched buzzing around my ears. Theses little spawns of Satan would buzz me over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. I would pull the covers over my head. They would use their Satanic powers to transport themselves underneath the covers as well. I would spray the room with bug spray. The buzzing Beelzebubs were immune. Nothing worked. Nothing. The only relief was sunrise. Six hours later. These were my nights. My maddening nights in Mexico.
This is what it is to live with a smudge on the lens of glasses.
You are a stronger man than I, Mr. Letterman.
Segment 5-7: Lisa Marie Presley
Remember "Blair Witch Project?" Remember "The Ring?" Remember the cuts and transitions in movies like "Natural Born Killers" and "Pulp Fiction" that almost gave you motion sickness? Remember the first time you learned how to work the Hi-8 video camera? To make horror films? In your basement? Inspired by "Lost Boys" and an imagination fueled by the Coreys, Reese's Pieces, Cheetos and chili cheese burritos from Taco Bell.
This reminds me of that.
Sorry, but I'm at a loss here. For everything. The audience watches the video. Strange. Lisa Marie talks. It's weird. We get to meet her daughter, Elvis' granddaughter. It gets weirder. Lucidity and coherence absolutely fly off the screen. It is, at this moment, that my own Texas Rangers' Josh Hamilton, sets a record for the most home runs hit in the first round of the Home Run Derby. 28. 2-8. Twenty-eight. Ridiculous. One of those was hit 518 feet. In Yankee Stadium. The House that Ruth Built. Did I mention it was at the All-Star Game Home Run Derby?
Simultaneously, I was learning about Elvis Presley's granddaughter's life as a photographer and fashion model.
Yes, I know. I deserved to be slapped.
Winfrey Woot 5: "Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu. Thaaaaaaaaaank youuuuuuuuu New Yoooooooooork."

Eckhart Tolle / A New Earth: A Christain Response

I am the author of A New Earth, An Old Deception. And I want all of you readers out there to know that this volume is NOT—I repeat, NOT—an attack on Eckhart Tolle (or Oprah Winfrey). It is simply a Christian response to a very popular and influential book that has been advancing New Age spirituality under the guise of teachings supposedly compatible with Christianity.

Featured heavily on Oprah and touted as an enlightening volume of truth by readers, A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle is finding a huge following in our culture. Promoting ideas and beliefs that seem godly and good, Tolle’s bestselling book seems to be wrapping the country in a cocoon of sound spirituality, peace, love, and awakening to “purpose.”

Much of what Tolle says may sound right (almost Christian, in fact), especially because Tolle quotes the Bible so often), but the truth is that Tolle’s views on God, Jesus, the Bible, and salvation are far from Christian—despite Oprah’s insistence that she is a “Christian” and that Tolle’s views are consistent with Christianity. In response to these statements, I offer my book A New Earth, An Old Deception, which I hope will help everyone understand the issues at hand. It is the first and only ( as of August 2008 ) Christian response to Tolle.

Once more, I want to stress that this is not a fear-based, hate-filled, mean-spirited attack against Oprah Winfrey, or Eckhart Tolle. On a personal level, I like both Oprah and Tolle, especially Tolle, who seems to be very sincere. As I even note in my book: “He often expresses himself using extraordinarily sincere and heartfelt arguments, poignant observations, and deeply personal anecdotes.” I also state very plainly in my book:

“[I]t is my sincere belief that Tolle’s motivation for teaching what he is teaching is heartfelt and, in his own way, loving—i.e., he wants people living happier, more fulfilling lives, in full appreciation of how precious they are as individuals. And he also wishes that the world were a better place for everyone; a place with less violence, hatred, strife, anger, and pain. Most of his views, in fact, I must admit, are rooted in his desire to help people escape their suffering—not only emotional but also physical.”

HOWEVER, this does not mean I agree with everything Tolle says, especially when it comes to how his views contradict my own personal experience of knowing “God.”

So in this world of civil discussion and exchange of ideas, I have presented a different perspective, which hopefully will help others understand why Tolle’s views are incompatible with the God-centered spirituality found in the Bible.

My goal was to share my heart, my faith, and yes, even some criticisms of Tolle—but all in a way that would stimulate not only conversation, but also spiritual growth in ALL of us. This is all about forward spiritual progression for everyone through a mutual sharing of those things we hold most sacred and dear.

Do I disagree with Tolle on a number of important issues? Yes. And this book simply expresses why I feel the way I do. And, more importantly, it points to what I believe—indeed, what I “know”—is a better way.

My hope and prayer is that the book will help Christians at all levels, as well as seekers and even Tolle’s fans, to see the truth behind what Tolle is advancing as Truth and how his so-called Truth lines up with the Bible (which Tolle often uses to support his teachings). Spread the word.

HELLO!

I suppose the first thing I’d like to say is that I’m a real person just like you, with feelings, hopes, dreams, and questions about life. I have a few strengths, and many weaknesses. I often wonder where life will take me, and never know where tomorrow will lead. Sound familiar?

My interests are fairly basic: singing/dancing (back in the day I was in “Dreamgirls” on Broadway and toured in “A Chorus Line”), writing (see my published books at amazon.com), chatting online, philosophical discourse, watching great movies (sci-fi, horror, action-adventure, comedy), and last, but certainly not least, video games (I play Eve Online).

I am also Christian with a heart for those who do not yet know the joy and peace of Christ. Consequently, a great deal of what I write at this blog will involve various religious issues that touch upon the Bible, God, Jesus Christ, salvation, the church, and other matters related to the Christian walk.

Unfortunately, I also happen to be a “public figure” because I am a published author, which means that I have little defense against all kinds of bizarre things that others have conjured up about me and posted on the Internet—i.e., what I have allegedly said; what I have supposedly done; and what I REALLY believe. And when I use the word “bizarre,” I really mean BIZARRE. So try not to take too seriously what you might read about me elsewhere online. And, if you have a question about something you’ve read, just ask me.

So here I am at wordpress to share a bit about myself, chronicle my life, make new friends, offer to the world what little I have to give, and basically have fun—coupling it all, hopefully, with thoughtful discussions. My prayer is that all of you will be able to appreciate who I am, and that together we will enjoy this thing called the Internet.

Eric Logan Appointed VP

Eric Logan is the new Executive Vice President at Harpo Productions. The role is a newly created one for Logan, who will report directly to Tim Bennett, the company President who created Logan’s new job especially for him.

Logan is understandably upbeat about his new position.

“I’m very excited to be joining Harpo at time when the future for the company has never been brighter. The opportunity to work with the entire organization on ways we can further grow our content offerings across all our platforms and showcase our talent portfolio is truly an opportunity of a lifetime,” he said.

The Executive Vice President job puts Logan in charge of Harpo Radio, Harpo Print and Harpo Retail. He also will take the helm of Harpo’s expansion into digital and mobile initiatives. He’s also expected to help manage talent at the company.

Logan will start work in August. He comes to Harpo from XM Satellite Radio, where he was the Executive Vice President for programming and broadcast operations. He worked for XM since August 2004.

Harpo is the Oprah Winfrey entertainment conglomerate that has been growing rapidly in recent years.
