The Iraq War has been going on for over 5 years now and nothing has really been accomplished.

Sure, the Iraqi tribal leaders rose up against Al Quaeda and drove them out of their towns and villages, but the U.S. military didn't have a damn thing to do with bringing a semblance of peace to Iraq.

What the Bush Administration and the U.S. Military did to Iraq is as bad as what the Nazis did to the Jews during the Holocaust.

Innocent Iraqi children were caught up in Bush and Cheney's wild ass dream of turning Iraq into a democracy, and this video shows you what Bush and Cheney did to Iraqi children.

Someday Bush and Cheney should be tried for war crimes. The whole Iraqi War was a waste of billions of dollars and thousands of lives and Bush and Cheney should be forced to pay for their war crimes.

In just three days, we will go to the polls to elect the next President. Will it be the Republican, John McCain, who wants to continue to do things like are seen in this video to innocent Iraqi children, or will it be the Democrat, Barack Obama, who wants to end the war in Iraq and end this senseless violence?

The choice is yours.

Iraq Iran Proxy Tinderbox

Since Iran is the primary beneficiary of our invasion and occupation of Iraq, on the surface it does not make any sense that they are funding and supporting organizations which are fighting America and the Maliki government, which is already in Iran's pocket.

But last week General Petraeus warned that these Iranian proxies are now the primary enemy in the ever changing, always shifting, goal line in Iraq.

Of course, Iran is gaming the situation. They support every political side that matters in Iraq, so no matter what happens it is a win win situation for them, and they keep winning so long as we are there. But, ultimately they would like an exodus, in which they can fill the vacuum and let Iraq become a full fledged Iranian vassal state.

So why postpone that inevitable day, by arming these militias? Iran does not want an outright war with the US which, after massive destruction to everyone, would result in the demise of the current Iranian regime.

Unlike Saddam Hussein, it would not seem likely they would misread the intentions of George Bush and the neocons. Although Ahmadinejad is off his rocker in a multitude of ways, Iran has always been extraordinarily crafty in pursing their foreign policy objectives.

An article yesterday, in the LA Times, by Borzou Daragahi may provide the answer.

Apparently Iran believes that the US is supporting some terrorist groups which are killing Iranians inside Iran.

One of these groups is the Mujahedin Khalq , which is considered a terrorist group by both the United States and Iran. Dargagahi reports that the group has killed dozens of Iranian security forces, including eleven members of the elite Revolutionary Guard, who were blown up in a car bomb.

They also think the United States is behind the attacks on the oil rich Arab Khuzestan region of southwest Iran.

Iran has come to the conclusion that the US is covertly providing support to PEJAK , a Kurdish Independence terrorist organization, with close ties to the PKK. They are engaged in a guerrilla war against both Turkey and Iran. Last year a Kurdish suicide bomber killed several Iranian officers and soldiers.

All of this has led Iran to start, amongst other things, giving support to Ansar al Islam, a Sunni terrorist group, with close ties to al-Qaida.

The danger is that all these proxy wars could give George Bush the justification he wants to mount air attacks against the Revolutionary Guard inside Iran, followed by strikes against Iran's nuclear facilities, followed by an invasion of Iraq by the Iranian Army, unparalleled terrorist attacks on US forces in Iraq, whole scale attacks on Israel by Hezbollah from the North, and Hamas from Gaza, and the unleashing of Iran's terrorist cells in Europe.

And who knows what will happen to the economy when oil prices hit four hundred dollars a barrel.

When General Petraeus spoke to congress, his central message was that the enemy in Iraq is now Iran.

Last week our cowboy president warned Tehran that they have “a choice to make," and if "Iran makes the wrong choice, America will act to protect our interests, and our troops and our Iraqi partners."

Congress needs to get off their butts and find out if the United States is providing support to any of these groups, under the guise they are freedom fighters destabilizing the theocracy in Iran.

I would be surprised if we are not. It is the kind of nostalgic James Bond Cold War intrigue, romantically beloved in neocon circles.

But Bush needs to be told unequivocally that he does not have the authority to arm any anti-Iranian proxies,and he does not have Congressional authorization to unilaterally strike any facility or groups inside Iran.

Otherwise, the disastrous Bush presidency could end with a tragedy, that dwarfs his already impressive record of incompetence and destruction.

LATEST U.S. CASUALTY REPORTS FROM IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN

The following is a list of the latest causualty reports from Iraq and Afghanistan. Click on the name of the GI for more information.

Casualty Reports:Army 1st Lt. Brian Brennan, 23, lost his legs to amputation and suffers from an acute brain injury. He was critically injured while on a mission in the 2nd Platoon Delta Company, 506th Infantry Division, 101st Airborne, patrolling villages in Afghanistan. According to information provided by his family, "On March 20, improvised explosive devices blew up the Humvee in which Brian was riding, splitting the vehicle in half and hurling Brian and the driver, Spc. Ryan Price of California, a distance of 40 feet in separate directions. The second explosion killed the three young men in the back of the Humvee."

Corporal Mark Sutcliffe, from Peterborough, who has served in conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and Sierra Leone lost his left leg in a terrorist attack.

Charles "Chas" Shaffer, 23, had his right leg amputated above the knee as a result of the blast that hit the armored vehicle he was driving on Aug. 31. Shaffer also suffered shrapnel injuries to his left leg as well as bruises to his lungs. After the attack, Shaffer, a combat engineer with the U.S. Army, was flown to Landstuhl, Germany, for treatment."They had to do several clean-up surgeries on his left leg, but I guess he's doing as well as can be expected given the circumstances," said Charles "Chip" Shaffer, the 23-year-old soldier's father, who is currently in Washington with his son. "The good news is that the left leg is going to be OK. He was on a ventilator until Saturday when they were finally able to take him off it. He'll be in intensive care for a couple of more days.

Yesterday in the presidential debate Mike Gravel commented that U.S. Soldiers had died in vain in the Vietnam War. Of course, he was implying that the same thing is happening in Iraq.

Many of us have long argued that we never should have invaded Iraq, and that the mission has been botched by the political leadership. I personally am one who believes that militant Islamic fundamentalism poses a grave threat to the free world, and is the ideological battle of this century. I just think that Iraq was a real real stupid place to take it on.

But, I certainly do not think that the sons and daughters of the Republic are dying in vain in that god forsaken corner of the world.

If you had asked me yesterday to articulate my reasons for feeling that way, I might have struggled.

But, today I received a message from Girl Punch that gave me a real good answer.

Girl Punch is one of my favorite online lesbians. Since she is a soldier in Iraq, apparently no one has ever asked and she has never told—except on her blog:)

Recently Girl Punch was walking through a market in Baghdad and saw a video for sale.

It was The L Word.

While, some of the fundies may want desperately to agree with my premise here, I am sure they do not see the importance or value of a video about hot LA lesbians being available in The Lands of Islam.

In fact most would like it banned in America.

And though many of us feel the cost has been too high, there is no question there is a bit of liberty in Iraq, that would not be there but for our presence.
