British dance band The Prodigy have announced that their new album ‘Invaders Must Die’ will be released on March 2nd 2009, and for the first time since the group’s 1997 hit ‘Fat Of The Land’, Liam Howlett, Keith Flint and Maxim all feature on the record.

Which is good news for The Prodigy’s millions of fans as ‘Fat Of The Land’ is widely considered to be one of the best dance albums of all time.

For kicks, we dug up the video for ‘Firestarter’ which you can see after the jump.

Can The Prodigy reclaim the glory of ‘Fat Of The Land’?

‘Firestarter’, ‘Smack My Bitch Up’, ‘Breathe’ and ‘Mindfields’ influenced an entire generation of electronic music artists and even taught rock and punk kids how to dance (as well as upset a few concerned parents too).

‘Fat Of The Land’ even made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for being one of the fastest-selling albums of the 1990s, and it made it into countless top album lists including Rolling Stone and NME.

By comparison, The Prodigy’s follow up album ‘Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned’ only featured Liam Howlett and was fairly mediocre.

Word has it ‘Invaders Must Die’ sees The Prodigy return to form, and we should expect old skool rave noise and incendiary breaks with lots of vocals.

You can pre-order the new album at: www.recordstore.co.uk/theprodigy

Video: The Prodigy ‘Firestarter’

Let’s hope the new album is just as provocative as this...

Hairs on The Back of My Neck

posted by fa6ab

It was Tuesday of this week that my mate sent me an email with a link to some footage of my favourite band “The Prodigy” performing at T in the Park. It has been about three years now since their last release so I quickly viewed the link. I have always been a fan and I absolutely love the energy from their songs, these are songs with a slight feel of aggression which is very powerful, especially when heard live.

The first song shown from their performance was a new song called “World on Fire”. It was a return to their old form, fast powerful and made me want to go out there and then to a club!

However despite the excitement of hearing a brand new track it was one of their classics that made me experience the common saying of the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. The track was “Firestarter”, I am not sure if I have experienced this before or not but listening to this track on my Mac with my headphones on I suddenly felt my hairs rise and a feeling of excitement came over me. I am known amongst my friends for my weird dance to this track so it does hold a place in my heart but it is the pure energy from this track that makes me (often in front of friends families and complete strangers) forget my embarrassment of dancing in front of people and just lose myself in the song. Watching it on the BBC’s iPlayer reminded me of concerts I have been to over the years and it has just re-ignited my desire to attend another.

Sometimes I can understand some bands reluctance to play on TV as with today’s technology people can quickly distribute the recordings around the world, however in this case I can safely say that the few songs that were shown have just created a massive excitement about the forthcoming album which hasn’t even been mentioned as being released anytime soon!

It is songs like this, that make you forget about your day-to-day life and just lose yourself, if only for a few minutes that make music a wonderful thing.

Should I still behave like a mad man to these songs at my age, who cares, just lose yourself in the music!

The Prodigy

posted by yaos
The Prodigy (or just Prodigy) are an English band. Their music consists of various styles ranging from rave, hardcore techno and industrial in the early 1990s to alternative rock and bigbeat with punk vocal elements in later times. The current band members include Liam Howlett (composer/keyboards), Keith Flint (dancer/vocalist) and Maxim (MC/vocalist). Leeroy Thornhill (dancer/very occasional live keyboards) was a member of the band from 1990 to 2000, as well was a female dancer/vocalist called Sharky who left the band during their early period. The Prodigy first emerged on the underground rave scene in the early 1990s, and have since then achieved immense popularity and worldwide renown. Some of their most popular songs include "Charly", "Out of Space", "Smack My Bitch Up", "Voodoo People", "No Good (Start the Dance)", "Breathe" and "Firestarter". The name changed from "The Prodigy" to "Prodigy" between Music for the Jilted Generation and The Fat of the Land in 1996 and back again with the release of Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned in 2004. This was only done to fit the changing logos, according to Howlett.James M, Prodigy book (2002), pg. 44, Sanctuary Publishing, mentions that Liam chose the name to attribute his Moog synth. read the rest of the Wikipedia article
