“On the Road with Rock ‘n Roll” Golden Crest Records (1957) From San Antonio, (and before Richie Valens), Mando and the Chili Peppers were perhaps the first Mexican-American rock & roll group to hit the charts in the mid-1950’s. This is their only LP. though they continued to play around San Antonio into the Sixties. Their sound was a mix of New Orleans R&B and rock, country and pop. Just a few years ago, after nearly 40 years and out of nowhere, the band played at the Ponderosa Stomp Music Festival in New Orleans.

As I stated before in my blog….. If a singer from another country were to come to Hollywood’s Forest Lawn and start to build a vacation home on the graves - Hollywood would be outraged!!! But because it’s Hawaii beachfront property, evidently the arrogance and greed lead to a total lack of respect for other peoples, their ancestors and their culture.

Those of us from other places are visitors here in Hawaii, and need to respect the history, people and culture of this beautiful island.

Flea, bassist brilliant tightrope walker and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, said in a recent interview for the Los Angeles Times (The full interview can be found here) that the band is taking a break and not write anything new for two years . This confirms and expands what was already stated in May, the frontman Anthony Kiedis, in an interview with Rolling Stone where announced that the band was paused for at least a year. Of course, the Peppers have always used a long time between album and the other (four years for example, among By The Way and Stadium Arcadium), but this time it seems that, at present, the desire to return to make music together that is less in the past.

At this point it would be desirable that after the planetary success of the last album (over 30 million records sold only with the last three studio discs), the band return to experience as the beginning of his career, when, together with other groups, open l ‘Was the funk-metal, the rap-rock and, in general, part of the alternative rock that mark indelibly all 90s.

Flea enrolls in music program as freshmen at USC

Red Hot Chili Peppers bass player Flea whose real name is Michael Peter Balzary, has enrolled as a freshmen at the University of Southern California in pursuit a degree of degree in music!

When asked why after years of success as a rock musician he felt the need to study Bach’s chorales and four-part harmonies, Flea said, “I studied music at the most remedial level when I was a kid, through the Los Angeles public schools, with a little private instruction. All my career, all that I’ve really done has been based on emotion and intuition and gravitating toward what sounds good.”

Flea says, he sees what concepts his band has been using all along. But now, learning the basic formations of chord progression and harmonies, he’s looking to expand himself as a composer and a musician.

Flea, knows the value of music in school. He started the Silver Lake Music Conservatory eight years ago after returning to his public high school and finding the music practice rooms neglected due to lack of funding.
