Choosing an Airsoft Gun.

Hello Again this is Steve with TheSportsOddity.com. We’ve been getting a lot of e-mails from the Good People of Our Great Country wanting to know how to choose the Right airsoft Gun for themselves. So, I thought I’d take just a moment and produce this quick guide. Note, this is not an extensive guide that you might find in an Airsoft Gun Magazine but it should be helpful.

Okay, First things first. Price. Do you want a Cheap Airsoft Gun or moderately priced or Expensive Airsoft Gun? There are plenty to choose from in all of these categories. You pretty much get what you pay for just like anything else, but there are some exceptions. For instance, I’ve seen some Cheap Spring Airsoft Guns out perform The Moderately priced Electric Airsoft Guns in Fps (feet per Second) and accuracy. The Downside is that you can’t get the Automatic Fire with the Spring Guns. Depends on what you want I guess.

Next as I alluded to above you have the Spring Airsoft Guns and The Electric Airsoft Guns. The Spring Guns work with no batteries. It is a spring mechanism that is cocked and released to propel the bb out of the barrel. The Electric Airsoft Guns uses a spring as well, that is driven by a small electric motor mechanism which propels the the bb’s out of the barrel. This allows the electric guns to rapid fire. If you are concerned about power and accuracy the Cheap Airsoft Guns, Electric or Spring may not satisfy you. Unless, you look at the Gas Airsoft Guns.

The Gas Airsoft Guns use Green Gas or C02 cartridges as a propellant. These gases are not usually interchangeable but some Guns will use both forms of Gas. For the Money these are probably the best for power and accuracy. In fact some Airsoft War Games Camps have banned the use of Gas Airsoft Guns. “ouch”

Okay Moving on. Will that be Metal or Plastic sir? Right, the next choice is whether you want a plastic Airsoft Gun or a more Life like Metal Airsoft Gun. The more life like generally the more expensive they are. But don’t count the Plastic ones out. Some of them are very detailed, but if you want that nice weighted feel then look for a Metal Replica. I knew it was a bad idea to watch the 49ers game

I should have known better.

The 49ers were 2-0 this season when I passed on watching them play on Sunday afternoon. I finally returned to plopping in front of the TV to watch a 49ers game this weekend and they promptly dropped to 0-2 when I take the time to tune in.

I honestly can't remember the last time I saw them win a game.

Sunday's game featured two costly interceptions and one fumble by the 49ers as they stumbled to a 31-17 loss to the Saints in New Orleans. The fact that quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan got sacked six times didn't help matters.

Overall, those numbers are about as ugly as the box score posted by the 49ers in the only other game I tuned in to this year, the 23-13 season-opening loss to the Cardinals. San Francisco fumbled five times in that game and O'Sullivan was sacked four times and was picked off once.

The Patriots, Eagles and Giants are lined up to face the 49ers in the next three weeks. With a schedule like that and my bad luck, the best thing for me to do on Sunday is anything other than watch the 49ers.

* YES, I'M STILL WATCHING "FRINGE": It took a while but I finally got around to watching this week's episode of "Fringe" and to my delight, the cow is gone!

And I was equally happy to see that the show has scaled back on the campy, over-the-top mad scientist bits with Dr. Bishop.

That's not to say that the mad scientist element of the show is gone, but the Dr. Frankenstein routine has at least been watered down and blended into the flow of the program a lot better than in the earlier episodes.

Hopefully "Fringe" will start diving into the shady link between Massive Dynamic and "The Pattern" in the next few weeks.

Less cow, more conspiracy. That's all I want out of "Fringe" through the rest of the season.

* SAVED BY MY REMOTE CONTROL: My Sunday as a sports fan was salvaged by channel surfing between the Brewers-Cubs game and the Mets-Marlins game while the 49ers were losing to the Saints.

Watching Ryan Braun and C.C. Sabathia carry the Brewers into the playoffs while the Mets choked for the second season in a row was a lot more entertaining than watching J.T. O'Sullivan throw the ball to the Saints in between getting sacked all afternoon.

* STILL A LITTLE MORE BASEBALL LEFT TO PLAY: It should be fun to see how the AL Central race plays out in the next couple of days.

If the White Sox lose their makeup game against the Tigers on Monday, the Twins win the Central. But if the White Sox win it'll force a one-game playoff on Tuesday.

If we're lucky, the White Sox will beat the Tigers and we'll be treated to a do-or-die game with the Twins.

Hopefully the Twins and White Sox can at least come close to matching the drama and entertainment value of last season's one-game showdown between the Rockies and Padres with the wild card on the line.

Typically, I go to MLB.com to check out stats, standings, box scores or news from around the league. But for a change of pace today I worked my way through MLB.com's blogs and found that the Phillies' ballgirls have something to say.

Right now the girls at http://philliesballgirls.mlblogs.com/ are kicking around recipes for a "Pre-Post-Season Party" and I have to say that the Chris Coste Cucumber and Tomato Salad looks like a winner ... even if the Phillies haven't locked up a playoff spot yet.

In case you're wondering about the old-school Phillies hot pants outfits pictured above, ballgirl Laura says they were a bit hot and itchy.

But the Phillies ballgirls aren't the only ones baring their souls at MLB.com ...

* Mountain Dew Reds Crew (http://mdxredscrew.mlblogs.com/): Dubbed "one of the first full-time cheering squads in Major League Baseball" the ladies of the Mountain Dew Reds Crew do their best to fire up Reds fans while manager Dusty Baker does his best to ruin the careers of his starting pitchers.

I've never been to a Reds game so I can't say for sure who's doing a better job, but my gut tells me that in the long run Baker will come out ahead. Mark Prior and Kerry Wood would probably agree.

* Screech's Blog (http://screech.mlblogs.com/): When I clicked on this link I was naturally expecting "Saved by the Bell" geek turned "Celebrity Fit Club" horse's ass Dustin Diamond. But this blog is even worse.

This blog belongs to the Nationals' mascot.

In case you're curious, this lazy bird hasn't posted anything since celebrating his third birthday on April 29. He's either nursing the mother of all hangovers or he flew into a power line.

I'm pulling for the power line.

* Frenchy's Forum (http://jefffrancoeur.mlblogs.com/): Ever wonder what's going through the mind of overhyped-yet-somehow-underachieving Braves outfielder Jeff Francoeur?

Is he wondering why he's hitting just .233, why he swings at garbage or why he was demoted to the minor leagues this season?

Nope.

Frenchy hasn't waxed poetic about anything since June which is way before his season and the Braves' playoff chances went up in smoke.

I can't believe a wasted a draft pick on this guy in one of my fantasy baseball leagues when players such as Jermaine Dye and Chad Billingsley were still on the board.

ESPN is great ... on mute

I'm trying to finish off the weekend with a little more baseball on TV and I've come to the realization that more often than not, I'd probably be a lot better off if I watched ESPN on mute.

I've already had to listen to Joe Morgan and Jon Miller go back and forth tonight about whether you should call a slider a "slide piece" or a "slide ball." Miller filled air time during Padres catcher Luke Carlin by repeating, "Luke, feel the force" and Morgan was clearly amused by the fact that Reds manager Dusty Baker was recently quoted saying that the team isn't his, it's the former GM's team.

At least ESPN's Jayson Stark acknowledges that Baker should, at a bare minimum, share the blame for Cincinnati's terrible record this season. Morgan just sits back and chuckles. Dodging responsibility for a terrible managing job is hilarious, right Joe?

Right now Morgan is babbling about his daughter getting into Stanford as a gymnast. Hey Joe, why in the world would I care? Try calling the ballgame.

Now that the NFL season is right around the corner it means that blowhard Chris Berman will be getting regular air time again which is bad news. At least he seems a little more calm on the NFL show than when he screams his lungs out while calling the All-Star home run derby or when he's biting people's heads off behind the scenes in Bristol, Conn.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TLG_LtWhj4.

ESPN also provides us with the not-so-soothing sound of Dick Vitale's voice during college basketball season. I always feel sorry for Jay Bilas when he has to be on the same set as Vitale. Bilas is calm, cool and collected while Vitale acts like a little kid who scarfed down a handful of chocolate covered espresso beans after forgetting to take his Ritalin in the morning.

The "Baseball Tonight" crew fits in well with the rest of ESPN's cast of clowns. Eric Young's "Souvenir City" home run call is almost as annoying as the "Phil Thine Horn with Oil" call they use when the Phillies go deep.

Steve Phillips, a terrible GM back when he could actually land a major league job, shares his wisdom on "Baseball Tonight " by knocking the Angels' trade for Mark Teixeira because they traded away the far more affordable (yet far less talented) Casey Kotchman.

I hope Phillips doesn't spend much time sitting by the phone waiting for a team to call him about being a GM again. Then again, if Jim Bowden can still have a job in the bigs I guess Phillips still has a snowball's chance in hell of drawing a major league paycheck again.

The mute button is a life saver. It's the only way to watch a baseball game being called by Joe Buck and Tim McCarver on Fox, the only way to watch a Giants game without Krukow and Kuiper getting in the way on local TV and the only way to watch ESPN without getting a migraine.
