Over the past 2 decades there’s been a lot of consolidation in the tractor industry. Case IH is one such example of this. For around 100 years, case produced tractors and other farm equipment and then in 1986 merged with a company called International Harvester to form Case IH. Through part of the 80’s and almost all of the 1990’s Case IH continued their tradition of building great tractors.
In 1999 further consolidation happened within the tractor manufacturing sector when Case IH merged with New Holland (which we know is itself a company made up of many mergers). So what has all these mergers done for the consumer? On a negative side, there’s less choice since much of the technology and design is shared between a few manufacturers. The reason that all these mergers have been good for farmers is because of availability of equipment.

As we know, the past 20 years has seen a sharp decline in the number of young farmers taking over the family farm and instead turning to higher education and jobs off of the farm. This caused a real dilemma for farm tractor manufacturers because they were losing customers year after year. Instead of concede defeat and quit, they decided to pool their resources together and make business work with fewer customers. A merged tractor company makes for more efficiencies since redundant work is eliminated. Many of us don’t like seeing large corporations making large profits, but the truth of the matter is this; If tractor manufacturers don’t make a decent profit they will cease to exist or move into building something else and farmers would be left without farm equipment to buy.

These are possibly the most challenging times for both farmers and tractor manufacturers. The better that they can understand each others businesses, the better it is for everyone.

Are Your Keywords Attracting The Right Audience?

Including keywords on your site is a MUST if you want to attract visitors.

Over 90% of people looking for something online start by typing keywords into a search engine like Google. And if the words they type match the ones on your web pages, YOUR site will show up in the results for those terms.

There’s no question that including keywords on your site will get you visitors…

… but using the right words in the right places will get you SALES!

Here’s three steps to turn your site into a keyword workhorse that brings you the people who want what YOU have!

Step 1: Get specific

The highest-converting keywords accurately describe what you sell — and they won’t necessarily be the ones that bring you the most traffic!

Let’s say you sell farm tractors. You include the general keyword "farming" on your homepage because farmers use tractors.

But people searching for "farming" could be looking for an endless number of things that have nothing to do with farm tractors! They could be searching for farm equipment, farm loans, or even information on fish farming!

For obvious reasons, "farm tractor" is a much better general term for your homepage… then you can get even more specific on your other pages.

For example, include the words that specifically describe the different types of tractors you sell (e.g., "back-hoe loaders," "compact farm tractors" or even "John Deere compact farm tractors").

Step 2: Put it in context

OK. So you’ve narrowed down your keywords so they describe exactly what you’re selling… Now it’s time to make sure you’ve put the right words on the right pages.

Forget your homepage for a minute. Make sure visitors who are searching for something specific go to a page where they find what they’re looking for… with no distractions. Create "landing pages" that focus on one set of related keywords.

You see, the search engines don’t just look for repeated keywords on a page when trying to decide what it’s all about. They also look at the context of the words around them!

Does each keyword appear on a page with relevant content?

You don’t want to feature the keyword "John Deere compact farm tractor" on a page that sells only bulldozers.

The search engines can also understand synonyms (other ways of saying the same thing). So don’t forget to include variations of your keyword as well.

For example, "small tractors for plowing" on a page optimized for the keyword "compact farm tractor" is totally acceptable — and will help catch people using those other search terms.

And most importantly, your visitors will be able to see at a glance that they’ve come to the right place to buy their next compact farm tractor.

Step 3: Be strategic

Now that you you’ve chosen the right words for the right pages, make sure you put them where the search engines expect to find them.

The search engines will look at a number of places first when trying to decide what your page is all about.

Then make sure you put your keywords there!

Once you’ve put these three steps into action, you should start to see a serious boost in your conversions across the board… including those all-important sales!

Well..........what do you think? If they're old (antiques) and they're tractors, why wouldn't they be? I think they are and I won't exclude them from the Fastrac Website. My brother-in-law has a tremendous collection of these old pedal tractors similar to the one shown in this photo. He has collected them for years. He still owns and operates a small farm in central Indiana where he uses mostly Allis Chalmers tractors and equipment, but since he has gotten older and has less energy than he used to, he got interested in the "Little Guys" so to speak.

It might surprise you how much some of these little old tractors are worth. Besides, if you are a person who is interested in the Antique Tractor hobby and didn't have the money to spare for the bigger tractors or you don't have the space to work on the larger ones, this might just be your connection to the hobby.

I'll bet more than a few of you have see these little old "play" tractors somewhere in your past as you were growing up. In fact, you can still see them pop up in garage and rummage sales occasionally. I have seen several of them being used as decorations in some of the Cracker Barrel Restaurants around the county. The last time I "Googled Up" the key words "Antique Pedal Tractor", the results were 64,100 pages with those words in the content. A lot of those results were for some of these units for sale on E-Bay.

Almost every Tractor Show or event that I see advertised will elude to a kiddie's pedal tractor pull event at the show. It's more than popular.....it's sometimes crazy! Lots of these old pedal tractors are being restored to original condition today and I think they have a real place in our hobby. My thinkin' is.......why not? If it's old and has a tractor attached to its name, it should get some ink!

To each his own is my motto. Whatever happens that gets our hobby more attention, the more it will serve us all. Think about it!
