Travis Henry in trouble with the law again

Travis Deion Henry (born October 29, 1978 in Frostproof, Florida) is an American football running back who is currently a free agent. He was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the second round of the 2001 NFL Draft. He played college football at the University of Tennessee.

A Pro Bowl selection with the Bills in 2002, Henry has also played for the Tennessee Titans and Denver Broncos.

The Rocky Mountains aren’t the only place to find some of the white stuff in Colorado; just check out former Broncos running back Travis Henry’s trunk (zing!). From the Rocky Mountain News:

Former Denver Bronco running back Travis Henry has been arrested for trafficking multiple kilograms of cocaine, the federal Drug Enforcement Administration announced today.

Henry and another man, James Mack, were arrested Tuesday after “as a result of a multi-kilogram cocaine transaction” in Centennial, Jeffrey D. Sweetin, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA’s Rocky Mountain Division, said in a statement.

The two men are being held pending the filing of federal drug charges in U.S. District Court later today in Denver.

I’ve never been a cocaine dealer, but I have seen the movie Blow and can tell you that kilograms — plural — is a lot of nose candy. I can also tell you that “nose candy” and/or “white lady” are interchangeable drug jargon, also learned from various films. See, Hollywood has much to teach us.

Also keep in mind that this would be the same Travis Henry who successfully appealed a failed marijuana test when he was still in the league last season. Now we know that the NFL was clearly just testing for the wrong drug.

Broncos Say 'Bye Bye' to Travis Henry

Running back Travis Henry has only been with the Denver Broncos for one season, and they're already letting him go. The Broncos released Henry today, saying his commitment to the team was in question.

Henry was signed to Denver last season with a five-year $22.5 million contract. In September he failed a test for marijuana and was told he would be suspended for a year. But the punishment was overturned after Henry challenged the test, and won.

Still, the Broncos doubted his commitment. In a written statement, coach Mike Shanahan said, "We did not feel his commitment to the Broncos was enough to warrant a spot on this football team. Although Travis has the ability to be one of the top running backs in the NFL, we have to make decisions that are in the best interests of our organization and its goal of winning a Super Bowl."

In his one season with the Broncos, Henry rushed for 691 yards on 167 carries with four touchdowns. His season was full of injuries, and he recently injured a hamstring while running 100-yard sprints last month.

Apparently if you're injury prone, the Broncos don't want you.

UPDATE 13:01 PM - Fox 31 News is now reporting that this latest violation took place while Henry was still a member of the Broncos in May. It’s speculated that the Broncos knew about the violation before releasing Henry. The Denver Post is reporting that the Broncos did not know about the violation before releasing Henry. Either way, good riddance.

Former Denver Broncos running back Travis Henry is out of chances. Since being released by the Broncos last month, he’s yet to be picked up by any NFL team.

News is breaking that Henry has again tested positive for marijuana, a direct violation of the league’s substance abuse policy. After 2007’s season-long drama involving a positive test (for which Henry was ultimately cleared), Travis Henry has to be out of excuses.

The news is unconfirmed but comes from the same source who previously broke Henry’s violation in 2007. Henry will likely face a year suspension for violation of the league’s substance abuse policy.

A lot of fans had your back Henry. You said some of the right things after the season ended, but it’s obvious you have no desire to save your career. Farewell, frankly I hope I don’t need to devote a post to you again.

A highly-placed NFL source says former Denver Broncos running back Travis Henry has tested positive again for marijuana according to Fox 31 in Denver. That information came from the same highly-placed NFL source that broke news of failed drug tests by both Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams and Henry to FOX 31 in the past.

“He is coming up for a year suspension,” the source said.

This is the second time Henry is facing a possible one-year suspension from the NFL.
On December 4, 2007, the 29-year-old Henry successfully appealed a previous positive marijuana test result of 21 nanograms/milliliter. Henry’s attorneys demonstrated a lapse in the NFL’s discovery process when the league failed to turn over all of Henry’s test results from within a two-week period of his offending sample.

Broncos Release Running Back Travis Henry

I know this news is a bit dated this afternoon but we've had so many laughs at Travis Henry's expense that I figured we need to post something about his release.

Running back Travis Henry was released by the Broncos this morning because coach Mike Shanahan said he questioned Henry's commitment. The Broncos opened a team minicamp today at Dove Valley, and the roster was updated this morning without the seven-year pro.

Said Shanahan in a release: "We did not feel his commitment to the Broncos was enough to warrant a spot on this football team."

It will never cease to amaze me the number of people in this world who blow once in a lifetime opportunities. Despite earning millions of dollars, we know that Henry has a huge monthly child support bill and conceivably no way to earn an income at the moment. He's gone from future NFL star to regular dude with money issues, all in the course of a couple of seasons. Ouch.
