X Games 14 Rally Car Racing Results

So this past weekend was the long awaiting X Games 14. I have been so excited about this one because last year I had a blast watching it. The crashes, the legend Colin McRae, and the last minute disqualification that stole the gold from Travis Pastrana, my main man.

The qualifiers were up first and they were certainly fun to watch. It’s the ice breaker to let us see what we are in for. They weren’t outstanding but they were indeed a sign of things to come, along with a nice win by Dave Mirra.

Next up, the Quarters. I was so impressed with Dave Mirra, being the rookie this year. He really laid it out and pending later occurrences in the brackets, he could have really went far. He actually went through half of the track with the under carriage of his car completely on fire during the Quaters. Pastrana, Ken Block, and Tanner Foust(the defending gold medalist) did just as they should and made it through. Ken did have a bit of damage to his car but he was able to finish. Another highlight was when the only car that was not a Subaru(turns out it was an Evo) flipped over when landing the jump. I was sorry for them as I did want some brand competition but in reality I chuckled inside about the irony.

Now, he comes the bad news part of this post. Both Ken Block(who’s car did not even make it past the starting line) and Dave Mirra(who ran his into the barriers next to the statdium’s exit ramp) did not finish. Although I was upset that both races weren’t close, it left nothing to desire as we had a repeat of last year’s showdown…Tanner Foust -vs- Travis Pastrana. A battle of the titans.

Here I sat, on the edge of my best friend’s couch, awaiting this amazing race. Last year Pastrana was an inch ahead of Foust but was disqualified for hitting the water barrier and moving into Foust’s lane. This year the barriers were concrete and they were not going anywhere. Again it came down the the final second and Pastrana simply edged out Foust in a photo finish.

This was by far the greatest display of rally car racing that I have seen. Many viable competitors with a finale of two unbelievable drivers. It went down to the wire and ended with Subaru fans everywhere cheering. It was a site to be seen and it just makes me ache over the year I have to wait to see it all over again.

Ken Block and Travis Pastrana look like they’re trying out for the next superman movie on this cover shoot for Racer X magazine.

The stunt involved Travis backflipping his MotoX bike over Block’s Subaru, and then fire was added in just for fun (and to keep things interesting).

When asked about the stunt, Block replied “Glad Travis didn’t hit his head on the top of my car, and at least I didn’t break my back this time.”

Apparently, when you’re Travis Pastrana, conquering regular sports just gets boring after a while, and you need to invent new and unique sports to conquer just to keep yourself busy.

Travis’ latest stunt, called the hydrojump, had him skimming his Suzuki dirtbike at 70 miles per hour for 110 feet in five-foot-deep water, and then launching off of a floating FMX ramp.
