I can’t help but think that Philip J. Smith, President of The Shubert Organization must be singing those words from jazz legend George Benson’s hit song – On Broadway.

Imagine this. Over a period of 100 years (since 1900), generations put their heart and soul into building the oldest, largest and most well-respected theatre company on Broadway. As President, you are well known throughout the theatre industry as a man of integrity and class.

Suddenly, in one fell swoop, you go from “toast of the town”, to just plain - toast.

Such was the case when Smith’s scorned, soon-to-be ex-wife, Tricia-Walsh Smith decided to take her divorce case to the people’s court (aka YouTube).

Walsh-Smith released her first, now famous video over one month ago. In the six minute rant, she covers everything from her and her husband’s “non-sex” life, to some of Mr. Smith’s personal belongings, including - viagra, condoms and porn. She goes so far as to contact his assistant asking what she should do with them – all captured live on video for the viewing public.

Since then, Walsh-Smith has released three more videos. Combined, they have received over 3,500,000 views online. Despite significant opposition to her tactics from the general public, in her most recent video Walsh-Smith pleads with her empathetic viewers to donate through PayPal to support her cause. She rants: “I’m going to form a foundation called Women Warriors of the World United. I’m going to help other women in my position . . . because united we stand, divided we fall!”

Regardless of whether or not you find Walsh-Smith’s approach distasteful, the fact is – she continues to deliver severe blows to the reputation of Philip Smith and by association – The Shubert Organization.

So, where am I headed with this?

To quote Marketing Pilgrim’s Andy Beal – “Every single day, someone, somewhere is discussing something important to your business; your brand, your executives, your competitors, your industry. Are they hyping-up your company, building buzz for your products? Or, are they criticizing your service, complaining to others about your new product launch. A great brand can take months, if not years, and millions of dollars to build. It should be the thing you hold most precious.”

Although extreme, this case is just one example of how you and your brand can be subject to attack. In a world where anyone armed with just a computer and a webcam can inflict irreversible damage, it’s critical to be mindful about the way you treat people – whether family, friends, customers, employees, competitors, etc. Something to think about.

Scorned Woman or Spiteful Bitch?

Is there a difference, you may wonder! During the first six months of being dumped, I believe there is an insanity that happens to most people, especially if there is foul play involved. That insanity can cause otherwise somewhat sane people to do insane things. Once you come out of CrazyLand, you’ll want to have a life to get on with, so it’s important not to make big decisions during that first six months, or maybe even the first year.

Tricia Walsh-Smith is the woman who used YouTube to air her divorce grievances. She’s 49 years old, not the best time to be starting over, but then again, certainly not the worst. She seems to have a lot going for her and a life to get on with living.

As you know, I’ve used the Internet to share my story and it’s certainly been a mixed bag. I was careful to make sure that the characters in my own story remained anonymous, but in spite of my efforts to spare the guilty, my ex and his companion jumped up and down on their own websites, yelling “hey,over here, it’s us she’s talking about”, making me think I must have portrayed them much too kindly.

Tricia Walsh-Smith is not bothering to spare anyone’s feelings. She’s pretty pissed off and she’s using YouTube as a way to inflict insult and injury upon her husband, Philip Smith and his family, in particular his daughter, the one she calls the “nasty, evil step-daughter”.

I don’t know what she expects to gain from this, but I think she’s made a mistake. Perhaps she was a nice woman before all this, but there’s not much evidence of it in the video. She doesn’t mention having loved her husband. She talks of money and possessions, so I think it’s her wallet that’s been broken, not her heart.

The Internet Movie Database shows that she has been married to Philip Smith, who is 25 years her senior, since 1999. She has one son, but presumably not by Mr. Smith, since there was no sex in the relationship, well, not mutual sex. Mr. Smith allegedly possessed condoms, Viagra and a porno movie collection.

The video could have been better, considering that she is an actress and a writer. The Tarot cards in the beginning of the video seem out of place and lose her some credibility. So, what’s the verdict? Scorned woman acting crazy out of heartbreak, or conniving gold digger, pissed off at how the finances played out? At the very least, I think that Philip Smith now has grounds for divorce.

“Hell Hath no fury like a socialite who is about to be evicted from her plush digs and who can hire a video crew to tape her wild-eyed tirade against her soon-to-be ex-husband. ” So writes Jenice Armstrong over at Philly.com, after Tricia released her first video on YouTube earlier this month.

Now Tricia has posted a sequel to the aforementioned video. It’s hard to tell, through all the “Me, myself and I” parts of this tirade and the Tarot cards, but I think her point is that her husband is interfering with her ability to earn a living and she’s frustrated that so many doors are being closed to her. He is, after all, the President of the Shubert Organization and she a playwright. There. I’ve done my bit in trying to find something to be sympathetic about in Tricia Walsh-Smith’s plight, but that’s all I’ve got.

In my opinion, she would have done better serving that dish cold – not piping hot and psychotic on YouTube.

Tricia Walsh-Smith Might Appear On "Real Housewives Of New York," If Dreams Really Do Come True

"Real Housewives of New York," a show which often features women who are neither real nor housewives, is rumored to include YouTube phenomenon and possible extra-terrestrial Tricia Walsh-Smith in their upcoming season. This. Must. Happen:

"They're approaching Trisha for the second season," our source says. "Nothing has been confirmed yet, but they think she would make a great addition to the show."

Officially, Bravo reps say, "As for Season 2, we've announced we've been picking it up, but no other decisions have been made so far concerning cast."

Nevermind that the source misspelled Tricia's name somehow. Beauty cannot be represented accurately by mere alphabet anyhow. The powers that be must definitely either include her next season, if only as a series of YouTube clips played in the background of each and every scene. She's baaack! Everyone's favorite self proclaimed "YouTube Superstar and Warrior" Tricia Walsh-Smith has put together another one of her perfectly edited husband bashing videos and released it on the internet. Take a look here: Tricia is one angry estranged (with an emphasis on the "strange") wife! Quick Facts (to catch those up who need it): 1. Tricia is trying to destroy her extremely rich husband, Philip Smith. 2. She's all upset that she's getting kicked out of her posh Park Ave apartment as the result of a solid prenup written up before the Walsh-Smith union. 3. At first Tricia said she wanted to expose Philip and his divorce deceit. Now, I'm not really sure what she's trying to accomplish, but it is definitely good TV!
