posted by Frenchy84
OOH-RAH!!!!

And God bless Hard Rocker Ted Nugent for writing such a wonderful tribute. From Human Events Online:

When we get older, it’s natural to think about whether we’ve actually done something worthwhile. This is not the case for the leatherneck men and women of the mighty US Marine Corps. President Reagan said it best: “Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference. The Marines don’t have that problem.”

I suspect if the Marines know one thing, it is that freedom is not free. There is a toll to be exacted and it is their blood, sweat, sacrifice and lives. As I type these vary words, there are leathernecks pushing ahead and killing Al Qaeda and Taliban voodoo monsters.

These leathernecks come from a long lineage of warriors who don’t know the meaning of quit. My hero, Colonel Lewis “Chesty” Puller summed it best when he said during the Korean War, “We're surrounded? Good, now we can kill the bastards in any direction."

...

The US Marines are warriors. They are the few and the proud. Americans are the many and the blessed. So long as the Marines are with us the flame of freedom and liberty will burn brightly.

May God bless the United States Marines Corps. Happy 233rd birthday, Devil Dogs. Semper Fi. Godspeed my Blood Brothers. Carry on.

You can access Ted's complete column on-line here:

Happy Birthday, Marines
Ted Nugent
Human Events Online
November 10, 2008

Marine Corps Birthday

posted by mnlewis

by Guest Blogger, Greg Verone

Happy Birthday Marines – Wherever You Are! On this day, 233 years ago, the United States Marine Corps was founded. For over two centuries Marines have defended our freedom in Every Clime and Place.

Today is a celebration as well as recognition. I associate Marines with excellence, the best of the best. The path every Marine travels dictates that regardless of how they enter the Marines, they leave as one – one heart, one mind, one body. As a DI once told me, they come in many shapes, they leave looking like Marines. I always understood that to mean more than just physically.

What we do for Marines is essential for their health and well being. Because Marines are Marines, they expect nothing less from us than excellence. We work hard to provide a better day to each individual Marine we touch. I work hard because I know that what we are doing makes a difference. You make a difference. Together we all make a difference. Happy Birthday Marines – Wherever You Are!

USMC Birthday - November 10

----

Greg Verone, President
Sodexo Government Services

Greg Verone, President of Government Services for Sodexo, Inc., is responsible for delivering on the mission of “Improving the Quality of Daily Lifesm” for government personnel and their families.
posted by libnot

“LATER IN THE ATTACK ON BAGHDAD THE 1 ST BATTALION, 8 TH MARINES GOT INTO A SERIOUS FIGHT IN AND AROUND THE IMAM ALI MOSQUE IN THE NORTH-CENTRAL PORTION OF THE CITY. THEY KILLED ROUGHLY 250 REPUBLICAN GUARDS, BAATHISTS, AND SADAAM FEDAYEEN AS THEY TOOK THEIR OBJECTIVES. FIRST CASUALTY REPORTS COMING IN ON OUR SIDE WERE ONE GUNNERY SERGEANT KILLED AND 41 TROOPS WOUNDED. THE NEXT DAY THAT FIGURE ZOOMED TO 1 KIA AND 73 WOUNDED. AS WE ASKED HOW THAT HAPPENED, WE LEARNED OF THE LCPL WHO CAME IN TO THE BATTALION AID STATION WEAK AND WITH A BLOODY ARM. THE CORPSMAN ASKED HIM HOW MANY TIMES HE HAD CHANGED THE BANDAGE AND THE MARINE TOLD HIM THAT HE HAD LOST COUNT. THE DOC, AS HE SHOULD, GOT IN THE MARINE’S CASE AND THE TROOPER SAID DOC I’M NOT THE ONLY GUY OUT THERE LIKE THAT. INDEED HE WAS NOT AND AS THE COMPANY COMMANDERS AND FIRST SERGEANTS EXAMINED THEIR MEN, THEY CAME ACROSS THE ADDITIONAL CASUALTIES. ASKED WHY THEY DIDN’T TURN THEMSELVES IN TO THE AID STATION FOR TREATMENT AND POSSIBLE EVACUATION THEY ANSWERED, “SIR, I AM THE ONLY AUTOMATIC RIFLEMAN LEFT IN MY SQUAD”, OR “SIR, I THOUGHT THERE MIGHT BE ANOTHER BIG FIGHT TODAY”, OR JUST “SIR, I DIDN’T WANT TO LEAVE MY BUDDIES”.

LADIES AND GENTLEMAN WITH TROOPS LIKE THOSE THE OUTCOME OF OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM WAS NEVER IN DOUBT.”
Happy Birthday, Marines

posted by bobwriter

Today, November 10, marks the two hundred and thirty-third birthday of the Marine Corps. 1775-2008. The Marine Corps is my second religion and it under-girds, sometimes in questionable ways, my first religion: Christianity as represented by the Baptist Church. November 10 has special meaning to me and to thousands of other Marines and former Marines. Whenever possible I try to celebrate the birthday with comrades, the long line of the faithful who have served, suffered and died for this beloved nation.

I always choke up a little at the sight of the brave who wore the eagle, globe and anchor, some without limbs, fingers, toes; some in wheel chairs, all with visible or invisible scars; and sight of the brave who presently wear the emblem and will earn their own scars and missing parts. I choke up at the ceremonies and rituals: the presentation of the colors, the pledge of allegiance, the table of remembrance set for the fallen and those missing in action, the cutting of the cake, and passing cake, along with the other traditions, from the oldest Marine present to the youngest Marine present. It’s solemn and it leaves each Marine with his or her thoughts and memories. One of my memories is buying a drink for the Commandant at the Press Center in Da Nang.

The Commandant sends a birthday greeting that is read by Marines around the globe. This year the Commandant said that the war of terrorism began in 1983 when terrorists blew up the Marine Barracks in Beirut; however historians may argue about the beginning and/or cause of present terrorism. It probably would have been politically incorrect or perhaps not have been the right time or place to mention that a president had provided those terrorists with arms and continued to provide them with arms after the deaths of 241 Marines.

Moments after Ronald Reagan was sworn in as president, the Iranian hostages were freed and Reagan lifted the arms embargo so that Israel could sell arms to Iranian terrorists. The US replaced the Israeli weapons. Despite the bombing of the Marine Barracks and two US embassies, the deal continued until Israel sent advanced missiles that could turn the finest US warplane into flaming metal. The missiles were defective.

Through Oliver North, a former Marine, the arm sales to terrorists became direct and the money from those sales were diverted to fight Reagan’s privately financed wars of terror in Central America. Because of those wars the International Criminal Court found the US guilty of international terrorism, the only nation ever found guilty of international terrorism. Reagan withdrew the US from the World Court and vetoed a UN Security Council Resolution calling on all nations to obey international laws and conventions.

Perhaps it wasn’t because it would have been politically correct or the wrong time and place to remind us of those facts. Perhaps it was because such mention would have clouded the proud history of the United States Marine Corps, darkened the memories of the dead and dimmed the lights of the city on a hill.

Tribute To A Fallen United States Marine

posted by libnot

“It is with the deepest sadness and most profound grief that I must report to you the loss of Daniel Wyatt, LCpl, Fox Co, 2nd Bn, 24th Marines, USMC. Daniel was killed in the line of duty, while conducting foot patrolling operations in Yusufiyah Iraq. Daniel was killed by a command detonated improvised explosive device. He died instantly, suffered no pain and was immediately recovered by his fellow Marines.
