So fall is here and we are up to our necks in engagement portraits and family photos and WE LOVE IT. The trees in Pennsylvania are just perfect and we're taking advantage of their vibrant colors. Jenna & Scott drove over an hour to meet me at the Valley Forge National Park (remember that place where George Washington...never mind just read your history books). Jenna & Scott had fun...maybe a little too much fun at their engagement session. Take a look.

Ted Kennedy at Valley Forge

God I was hoping the seizure was just alcohol withdrawal.

I am not a fan of much of Ted Kennedy's politics. But today at Mass I said a prayer for him.

I am also not a fan of his punk brother, Robert, who got his brother John killed by betraying the people who put him in the White House.

But one of the most moving moments in Ted Kennedy's career, and in the history of the Republic, was the eulogy he delivered at Robert Kennedy's funeral. No one has ever explained better what the noble side of America is all about:

I met Ted Kennedy once.

It was three years ago, and I was visiting Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Kennedy and some of his family arrived in a van. There was no pomp, fanfare or reporters--nothing political about it. It was off season, few other visitors, and the National Park Service rangers did not even seem to be expecting them. They signed the guest book and took the tour.

I felt stupid going up to him--but, like a giddy schoolgirl, I just had to shake the hand of such an important historical personage.

But, he also meant so much more to me that day, despite my disagreement with a lot of his politics.

Only patriots do a family vacation at Valley Forge.

Joseph had an appointment at CHOP in Philadelphia last week, so we stopped by Valley Forge on the way home. After Washington crossed the Delaware river and won battles at Trenton and Princeton, the Continental Army stayed the winter in Valley Forge. Until suitable cabins were built for the soldiers, Washington himself stayed in a tent. It took the soldiers one month to build 1,000 cabins. Valley Forge was picked because it was close enough to keep an eye on the British troops in Philadelphia, yet far enough away to prevent a surprise attack.

Below is a picture of Washington's headquarters once the troops had cabins. This house was rented from its owner while the troops were encamped at Valley Forge.

Super Pet Expo 2008 - Valley Forge, PA

This past weekend, we took Jackson to the Super Pet Expo at the Valley Forge Convention Center. It was a glorious find when I heard about it the week before, and I was super excited to get tickets. It was definitely a bonus when we saved $3 by purchasing our tickets online. $9 a person, leashed pets were free! SCORE! I was very excited to take Jackson out of the house on a trip solely for him. I thought he would have the best time ever, I was probably more excited for it that he will ever know. It was fun, but not what I expected. It was a lot of vendors selling mainly the same stuff. There were a ton of people, so I had to pick Jackson up to keep him from getting stepped on. We got to see Air Dogs perform tricks, catching Frisbees while jumping into a pool. Another highlight in the trip was that we were able to see/meet Elwood, the World's Ugliest Dog:
He was cool to see. I picked up one of Elwood's books. It is titled Everyone Loves Elwood. Elwood even signed it;
