Vera Zvonareva: "I think I'm just a more experienced and more mature player right now. I've been on the Tour for a few years, so maybe I have more experience behind my back and it helps on the court. It also helps you to understand that you'll never play perfect tennis out there. But no matter what, you have to try your best. You have to find a way to win the match, and that's what makes it interesting for me. "

"I think everyone at the Championships is a very, very good player, obviously. At the end of the year, it's the eight best players here. So I'm sure everyone has chances to win the tournament. But I think women's tennis is at a very high level right now, and everyone is ready to compete here. So I think it will be very, very interesting to see this week."

Vera Zvonareva qualifies for Doha

Vera Zvonareva will be making her second appearance at the Sony Ericsson Championships in Doha. The Russian has qualify for this great event after reaching the semifinals in Linz.
During this season Zvonareva won two singles titles (Prague and Guangzhou) She also was a runner-up at Hobart, Doha, Charleston and Moscow and made semifinals at Miami and Beijing, a won bronze medal at the Olympics, and the Fed Cup title with Russia.

"It's really a great accomplishment that I have qualified for the Sony Ericsson Championships this year. It has been a while since I last played there, and it feels wonderful to be one of the best eight players of the regular season. I look forward to returning to Doha to play the Championships, after I played really well at the Qatar Total Open earlier this year." said Vera Zvonareva.

Larry Scott, Chairman & CEO of the Tour said that Vera is a wonderful competitor and it is great to see her back among the Top 10.

Thanks to Heart we can enjoy some very good pictures of Vera Zvonareva training in Doha for the Sony Ericsson Champion that will begin on Tuesday, November 4th... It looks like by Vera's face that she had a tough day on the practice court....

Vera Zvonareva wins Guangzhou tennis open

Vera Zvonareva, top seed, defeated Peng Shuai, 4th seed, 6-7 (4/7), 6-0, 6-2 to win the TOE Life Ceramics Guangzhou International Women's Open.

Zvonareva was able to take her second title of the year, the first one came in Prague, and the 7th overall.

Vera held a 3-0 head-to-head record over Peng going into the match and it looked like her winning run could be grinding to a halt when she lost the first set.

During the first set Peng took an early break to go 2-1 up and then broke again in the for a 4-1 lead. But Zvonareva hauled herself back into the match by breaking in the next game and held serve for 4-3.

It went to serve till Peng lost her nerve when she was serving for the set at 5-4, with the Russian pouncing on a series of errors to make it 5-5.

The set went to a tiebreak and Peng knuckled down to win it 7-4 in 72 minutes.

But Peng self-destructed, losing 11 games in a row to throw away her chance winning her firts WTA title.

Zvonareva produced some remarkable shots to race through the second set 6-0, leaving a stunned Peng pondering how to halt her slide.

Peng's confidence was shattered and she went 5-0 down in the decider before finally breaking for 5-1. But it was too little too late as Zvonareva completed her charge to the title in two hours 20 minutes.

Vera Zvonareva has had great success latetly. The Russian capture a singles bronze medal at the Beijing 2008 Olympics and also helped Russia to claim the Fed Cup title.
