Chargers/ Patriots: Rivers Air It Out, Pound Patriots 30-10

In another must win situation, the San Diego Chargers pounded the New England Patriots 30-10. At 3-3, the Chargers head to for a tough game against the 4-1 Bill.

From the get go, the Chargers came out firing. In what seemed to be vintage Air Coryell, Philip Rivers went 18-27 for 306 yards and 3 TDS. Rivers aired it out, finding Vincent Jackson for 49 and 59 yards. Jackson finished with 5 receptions for 134 yards and 2 TDs. Rivers also found Malcolm Floyd on a 49 yard TD strike. The defense also came up big. With the score 17-3, the Chargers stuffed the Patriots on a 4th and goal at the 2, changing the momentum of the game. For the first time, the Chargers played football for all 4 quarters.

Positives

Philip Rivers: What can you say? The offense begins and finishes when he airs it out.

Vincent Jackson: Breakout game of the season. Leads the team in catches.

Malcolm Floyd: 3 catches for 75 yards. Incredible catch to haul in the 49 yard TD.

Defense: Pressured Matt Cassel all game long. Jamal Williams was blowing up the line of scrimmage forcing others to get the QB. Quentin Jammer held Randy Moss to only 3 catches for 26 yards and had 2 interceptions with 1 negated. He is playing for a trip to Hawaii. Overall, the best game they have played as a unit this year.

Negatives

Running game: Though there were signs of improvement, the team only ran for 98 yards. It may take more time for the running game to develop as LT is still nursing his injured toe.

Jacob Hester: 1 rushing attempt 0 yards and 1 fumble lost, resulting in a Patriots scoring drive. Not good for a 2nd round pick with high expectations. Norv didn't give him the ball after the fumble.

Next Week: @ Ralph Wilson Stadium against the Buffalo Bills

The Bolts hope to take momentum into Buffalo and beat the Bills. QB Trent Edwards is recovering from a concussion in their previous game against the Arizona Cardinals but should be able to play. The last time the Chargers played in Buffalo was in 2006, winning 24-21. They should be able to handle the Bills despite Buffalo coming off their bye week. They need to come out with the same intensity as they did against the Pats, otherwise it's going to be a long flight to London against the New Orleans Saints.
