"Vivian and Johnny met at a skating rink in San Antonio, Texas in 1950. He was in basic training, and she was a senior in high school. Three weeks later, Johnny was shipped off to Landsberg, Germany, where he served as a radio intercept operator for the Air Force. Johnny and Vivian exchanged over 10,000 pages of love letters during his military service. They had a long courtship and eventually married in August 1954, after Johnny’s discharge from the Air Force in July 1954. They had 4 daughters together (the oldest being Roseanne Cash)."
