Former NFL defensive lineman Warren Sapp is a lot of things--among them loud, loveable and fleet of foot (he's going to be on Dancing With The Starts this year). But one thing he has never been is quiet. That's why when he was asked about the last team he played for--the Oakland Raiders--during a press interview for his new gig as a host on Showtime's Inside The NFL, he didn't exactly mince words.

Theyre going to suck.

No, really. Tell us how you really feel.

As far as where the Raiders are going, they have unrealistic ideas about what their people can do, Sapp said on a conference call to promote the reincarnation of Inside the NFL that premieres tonight on Showtime.

That was the experience I had in the four years I was there. They asked people to do stuff they were physically impossible of doing."

You mean like stop people from running down your throats every time you took the field, Warren? But to be fair, the work of the quarterbacks during his tenure--like Aaron Brooks, Josh McCown and Daunte Culpepper--kept the defense on the field for a long time, maybe enough to shorten his career, but hastened his entry to DwtS and our ability to see this... Retiring Sapp Bashes Raiders on the Way Out

In an interview with the “St. Petersburg Times,” retiring Raiders defensive tackle Warren Sapp didn’t have kind words to say about his former employer. Asked to describe his experience with the Raiders, the soon-to-be Hall of Famer said it was, “As dark as a black hole. Stuff went on in that organization that shouldn’t go on in sports. I don’t think there’s one person who knows who or what is making the call. Let’s just say the Oakland experience was unique. The phone rings quite a bit on that sideline.”

The 35-year old Sapp announced his retirement on January 8th, ending a 13-year career that saw him record 96-and-a-half sacks, the second most for a defensive tackle, and win a Super Bowl ring while with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As for his next move, Sapp has said he plans to accept an offer to appear on “Dancing With the Stars.”

Two Raiders Fined By League For Outbursts

Two Oakland Raiders defensive players are a bit lighter in the pocketbook this week; according to Josh Dubow of the Associated Press, defensive tackle Warren Sapp was fined $75,000 by the NFL for his confrontation with game officials that led to his ejection last week. Specifically, the league said Sapp was punished for “physical and verbal actions toward game officials that drew an unprecedented three unsportsmanlike conduct penalties and ejection from last Sunday’s game.”

Raiders defensive end Derrick Burgess was fined $25,000 for verbally abusing an official during the same sequence. The altercation itself took place last Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars when the Raiders were flagged for 4 unsportsmanlike conduct penalties in one sequence; the episode began when Jaguars offensive tackle Tony Pashos was flagged for illegal use of the hands to the face. Officials on the field originally said that the Raiders declined the penalty and the Jags lined up for a 43-yard field goal attampt; however, the same officials then said that the Raiders would accept the penalty, making it third-and-20 from the Oakland 35.

The Jaguars’ offense went back onto the field, but a few seconds later, the officials called the first unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Sapp - who said Wednesday that he was angry because the officials declined the penalty without first checking with the Raiders. That gave the Jags an automatic first down, and Sapp continued to jaw at the officials; Sapp and Burgess were both given unsportmanlike conduct penalties during the arguments. After the game, referee Jerome Bogar said that Sapp was ejected for bumping umpire Garth DeFelice; however, Sapp denied bumping into said official.

Not surprisingly, Sapp is no stranger to run-ins with officials; Back in 2003, Sapp, then a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, reportedly bumped an official; 4 days later, he was fined $50,000 for what was described as “repeated violations of abusing officials.”

At the end of December during his second-to-last game, Oakland Raiders defensive tackle Warren Sapp, who announced his retirement on Thursday after 13 years in the NFL, was fined $75,000 for a confrontation with officials which led to his ejection from the Raiders-Jaguars match-up.

In discussing the incident with Sports Illustrated, Sapp unearthed a euphemism, which up till now I hadn't heard before.

Said Sapp: "It was something that was really, really on the edge of like, gay porn. When it's real bad football, that's what we call it: gay porn. Something you just don't want to watch. Something you just don't want to see on TV. Something you don't even want to talk about. That's gay porn."

That said, I've changed my mind and I'm hoping Tom Brady and Brett Favre play a lot of real bad football in the playoffs.

UPDATE: I've been told that Sapp's "gay porn" comments may be about a year old, something not noted in the deadspin or realests posts. So, of course, it's entirely possible he may have grown comfortable to taking it in by this point.

Due to the retirement of Oakland Raiders defensive lineman Warren Sapp, this doozy of a comment that he made back in 2006 is getting new life in various media outlets. Since we missed it the first go around, we figured we'd show it to you now:

Sapp throws a sideline tantrum because the [Oakland Raiders’] ugly play. “It was something that was really, really on the edge of, like, gay porn,” he explains. “When it’s real bad football, that’s what we call it: gay porn. Something you don’t want to watch. Something you just don’t want to see on the TV. Something you don’t even want to talk about. That’s gay porn.”

Hmm. Well both do involve grown men playing a sucky game involving balls. Both the catchers who drop the pigskin and the catchers who successfully accept the man-skin do appear to be lubed up. And if there are problems, both sets of players can blame a tight end. Not to mention, the multi-man pileup that's a regular part of any football game. So Hell, maybe Sapp has a point (even if his context is more homo-fearful)!

We knew there was a reason why we were always so bad at the game.
