West Ham Boss Zola Backs Green For England Recall

West Ham United manager Gianfranco Zola has claimed that an England recall is not far away for goalkeeper Robert Green if he continues to put in performances like the one against Portsmouth at Upton Park on Saturday in the Premier League.

28-year-old Green was the difference between the Hammers losing to Pompey or coming away with a point as the former Norwich City pulled of a series of fine saves to keep West Ham in the match and ensure that Zola’s side did not endure their sixth defeat in seven games.

Former Chelsea legend Zola claims Green played like an International keeper and now wants the Hammers stopper to maintain that high level and force himself in to England manager Fabio Capello’s plans.

“Robert was outstanding. He was aware and made some fantastic saves, I'm really pleased for him. He played like a national team goalkeeper, but it's not down to me to judge. Capello knows what to do better than me,” said Zola.

“To be in the national team you have to perform at high levels all the time, week in week out. I wish that Robert will do the same now here.

“I am expecting him to perform like this for many other games. We need Robert playing the way he did against Portsmouth.”

Green, who was pleased to have kept a clean sheet in the match with Pompey is confident that West Ham have enough quality to avoid relegation, with the Hammers stopper upbeat about winning another England cap. Despite being overlooked in favour of Joe Hart and Scott Carson for the clash with Germany on Wednesday.

Green said: “We have not had the best of runs but I am sure we can go forward - I am confident we will avoid it [relegation].

“I've been sick of people reminding us that we've not kept a clean sheet for goodness knows how long. It's good to get that monkey off our backs.

“I was in the last squad for Kazakhstan. If it comes along it comes along. It is motivation enough to do well for West Ham.”

West ham manger zoal today has slamed claims he will bee forced some of his stars in the january transfer window.
despit The club's vice-chairman Asgeir Fridgeirsson saying on Tuesday that no more funding will be made available to Zola for the foreseeable future.
in an interview with skysports zoal said "Not really - I spoke to people from the board and they assure me that the club has not got any problems and the situation will improve. So I'm not really concerned about it."

Asked if he will have to sell before he can buy in the January transfer window, the Italian replied: "Right now I don't need to buy really.

"I am happy with what I have got - there might be the possibility that someone might go on loan because we have got a big squad and obviously I don't want to keep players here training and not playing.

"But right now, really, I don't need to buy any players - I have got everything I need right now."

he also slamed reports he must sell big money players like dean ashton.

"No, not really - the club have not told me anything about that - actually they want to progress, they want to strengthen the team so not really, we are not going to be selling any good players that we have," he said, adding they are going to keep them and try to improve the team.

Diego Tristan.This former Spain international on Tuesday signed a permanent deal at Upton Park after impressing on a two-week trial. West Ham manager Gianfranco Zola moved for the player following a two-week trial, with England international striker Dean Ashton sidelined following ankle surgery.

The 32-year-old, who becomes Zola's first signing as manager, had been a free agent after leaving Italian side Livorno. The striker, who won 15 caps for Spain between 2001 and 2004, also played for Deportivo La Coruna and Real Mallorca in his homeland.

"Now my dream is going to become reality. I am at a great club and I want to see if I can help West Ham get into Europe and play at that level.

Now, we can see two great striker from Spain in BPL, Diego Tristan and of course Fernando Torres to help their club to be in top four.. alongside with Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool or maybe Man City.

West ham are set to make a final decision on diego tristan this week with the player still keen on a move to upton park.
some reports suggested Tristan had not done enough on trial to earn a permanent move to The Hammers,but Gianfranco Zola has since insisted he is still watching the player who is viewed as a replacement to the ever injured dean ashton.

diego tristan has said “West Ham have still not made a final decision on me,” Tristan revealed. “Zola has asked me to continue training and by the middle of the week will give an official answer.

“I can’t say anything more. I’m working the maximum I can and they must decide if my presence can be positive.

“I have not spoken of anything to do with money. I would like it because in England there is always a great atmosphere in football.”
