Matt Barber: It's time for ALL sides to denounce his extreme vitriol!

Here at G-A-Y, we prefer to focus on the messaging, not the messenger, and are very reluctant to place definitive labels on individual members of our opposition. We also abstain from using words like "hater" and "bigot," because we see the so-called "culture war" as more complex than that, and we see the labels as counterproductive to what we're trying to accomplish. So the pronouncement that we are about to make is one that we would never take lightly. However, after years of study of the players in this anti-gay vs. pro-gay battle, we have come to what we think is a very fair assessment of one certain individual.

Our declaration? MATT BARBER NOW OFFICIALLY RIVALS FRED PHELPS IN TERMS OF VITRIOLIC ATTACKS ON THE LGBT COMMUNITY! And in fact, considering how honest Fred Phelps is with his genuine, unapologetic "fag-hating' views, we would even argue that Matt Barber is far more damaging to reasoned discourse than Phelps and his Westboro Baptist fellows.

So what sets Matt apart from his conservative fellows? Well, his words are simply dripping in genuine, flat-out HATRED. He doesn't even pretend to want to dialogue, bur rather clearly wants to wound. His hyperbole is so intense, that you can literally feel the abject rage that lives within his heart. Through his tenures at Concerned Women For America and now The Liberty Counsel, he has carved out a bully niche for himself, and he seems to wear the role like a badge of honor. Whereas we would gladly have coffee with almost any of our "pro-family" opposition, and whereas we have had hundreds of perfectly cordial conversations with the same, with Matt we would have a genuine fear of crossing his path in a dark, secluded alley.

Here' consider some quotes from Matt's latest column. Through his cutesy prose (lil' lavender wagons), monolithic castings of an entire group of people, attempts to divide rather than heal, over-the-top labels, and definitive religious condemnations, what comes across to us in these words is someone who genuinely does -- and again, we don't use this word lightly -- HATE us:

"In what amounts to a sort of soft racism, self-styled "queers" have disingenuously and ignobly hitched their lil' lavender wagons to a movement which, by contrast, is built upon the genuine and noble precepts of racial equality and humanitarian justice."

"An illegitimate offspring of the '60s sexual revolution, the newfangled "gay rights" cult is today's postmodern, sex-centric cause célèbre. Its core tenets include, among other things, mandated moral relativism, social androgyny and forced acceptance of a pleasure-based, though demonstrably destructive, lifestyle. Apart from practitioners of "the sin that dare not speak its name," its devotees are in large part institutional fringe elitists confined to blue-state America who almost universally suffer the insufferable pangs of white guilt."

"Like an addict jonesing for a hit, they long for that rush of self-righteous affirmation associated with belonging to something perceived as larger than themselves."

"By drawing artificial parallels between the systematic persecution experienced by blacks over centuries past to the inherent aversion most have toward biologically unnatural, traditionally immoral and objectively perverse sexual behaviors, the homosexual lobby trivializes and diminishes the African-American struggle for civil rights."

"The left's venomous reaction to the passage of Prop 8 has showcased these people for who they truly are. It has removed the sublime mask, revealing an ugly and desperate countenance below. It has exposed the self-proclaimed agents of "tolerance" and "diversity" as the most intolerant, hateful and bigoted among us. It has revealed – as Scripture says of those trapped in homosexual sin – that they are '[given] over to a reprobate mind.'"

"What God has cast asunder, let no man join together."

We are "reprobate mind"-possessing heathens whose "ugly and desperate countenance" has been revealed. Oh, and God has cast us asunder.

Fred Phelps might say it in a more direct manner. But at the end of the day, isn't the message really the same?

Idiots At Westboro Church to Protest Obama & Durbin Family Funerals

If you don't know who Shirley Phelps Roper is, you probably have seen her and her church protesting on the news at soldiers funerals. She along with the majority of her family make up the roughly seventy member church that beleives they are doing God's work by protesting funerals to warn Americans that God hates fags among other things.

They have announced plans to boycott the funeral of Barack Obama's grandmother who recently past away on Monday. A posting on their site has some of the following: "By his own pronouncements, and by the events as they have miraculously developed on the ground, presidential candidate - Sen. Barack Obama - is the Antichrist."

They also announced plans to boycott United States Senator Dick Durbin's daughter Christine's funeral who passed away from heart disease on November 1st. "As a leader of the U.S. Senate when they passed laws against WBC (Westboro Baptist Church), her father - Sen. Dick Durbin - maybe should reflect on his actions of lifting up his hand against the Lord's people - at such a time as this. It may be a good time for Sen. Durbin to apologize for trampling on the rights of Westboro Baptist Church. We are prepared to accept his apology."

I also would like to note, this co called christian organization were heavy supporters of Sarah Palin. I am not saying she has the same believes as them, but this is where some of the extreme hard right conservatism comes from. The hateful preaching against homosexuals and abortion drives people with a minimal threshold of mental capacity to this deranged type of Christianity. The acts that these people are perpetrating Westboro are doing in pure despicable.

Welcome Westboro Baptist Church...

It seems that anti-gay church Westboro Baptist Church (a Kansas-based group which claims the United States is being punished by God for being friendly to homosexuals), which is led by pastor Fred Phelps, planned on picketing Obama’s grandmothers funeral today. The Obama robots are up in arms and want to “teach them a lesson” and scream that this is a “new low for Westboro”.

Where were these idiots when Fred Phelps and Westboro Baptist Church were planning on protesting at the funeral of Army helicopter pilot Kyle Jackson, Pfc. James M. Yohn, soldier John Sigsbee or Cpl. Carrie French to name a few?

They didn’t care before but now, it has to do with their King Obama so all of a sudden they care. Do they think people don’t see through their hypocrisy? Why is this suddenly a “new low”? Those brave military soldiers gave their LIFE. Where was their outrage then?

On a related note…it seems that Barack and Michelle were just to busy to even attend the funeral of the person he called a “typical white person”. The media was feeling so sorry for him when she died….I guess the joke was on them because he never really cared, and it shows.

I just saw this picture and it turns my stomach. Teaching children HATE at this age. Pathetic.

The article states:
"The radical Kansas “God Hates Fags” church, also know as Westboro Baptist says it will protest a play being put on by students of Grosse Pointe South High School, in Grosse Pointe, Michigan.

The play, entitled “The Laramie Project” is about the torture, beating and death of Matthew Shepard, a gay college student who was killed in Laramie, Wyoming back in 1998.

The church, who have gained attention by protesting the funerals of soldiers, saying they died because God hates fags and that’s why America tolerates fags, are the ones planning to protest the play.

Shirley Phelps-Roper, the founder’s daughter and a member of the church, said they learned about the play from an e-mail.

She stated, “The Laramie Project has a function, it’s to teach rebellion. Teaching rebellion violates the teachings of the Bible.”
