The Owners of Evolution Shirts on the main street of Henderson, Minnesota, in the southeastern part of the state, are fabulous. They share an appreciation of the oddities in the world by featuring the famous five-legged frog, which makes its home in this neck of the Minnesota River, on their signs and business cards. The frogs were discovered by a group of school children

When I was much younger, I took a book out of the library about Barnum and Bailey's Circus, and even though I felt like a voyeur reading about the human oddities, I couldn't put it down. I don't know a lot about frogs, but I do know that five legs on one frog is a bad sign. For the frog, anyway.

Fortunately, upstream, on the other end of the state, there is a group dedicated to cleaning up the river and preventing future frog and environmental oddities.

Tadpoles eat many different things. if you're trying to raise tadpoles from egg, try these foods:

- Lettuce. Chop it up into small bits, then steam it, then freeze it. You can drop the frozen lettuce into your pond and the tadpoles will eventually eat it.
- Fish Food. Try gold fish flakes. Make sure that the flakes are small. if not, rub them in your hands to brake up the flakes.
- Small insects. Harder to collect and feed, but you can purchase insects for feed at some petstores.

If you were a frog, what kind of frog would you be? Well, probably a hungry frog.

Frogs start off as tadpoles, eating mostly leafy greens and algae. Eventually they step it up and begin to eat insects and other easy prey. By the time they reach adult status, frogs are stricting carnivores.

As adult frogs, the hunt becomes a but more involved. Frogs sit silently and motionlessly, waiting for their prey to come within range. Then...BAM. They use their sticky tongues to very quickly snatch prey.

The frog then winds its tongue back up and eats the catch. One interesting fact about frogs is that their tongues are attached in the front of their mouth instead of the back. Kinds cool!
