The Office is the American version of the popular British series of the same name. It is original in the sense that it is shot in a single camera setup and is without a studio audience and a laugh track. It made in the form of a documentary, or “mockumentary”. It is the story of the everyday lives of the office employees in the Scranton, Pennsylvania branch of the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. Though it is just fictional and scripted, the show is seen as a documentary and the presence of the camera is acknowledged.

The regional manager of Dunder Mifflin Paper Company’s Scranton, Pennsylvania Branch, Michael Scott (Steve Carell) starts the show by taking the camera crew and Ryan Howard (B.J. Novak), a temp on his first day, on a tour. Michael Scott, who thinks he’s the hippiest, most amusing, boss always, is actually seen as the not so cool, intolerable and irritating boss by his staff. The salesman Jim Halpert (John Krasinksi) both love receptionist Pam Beesly (Jenna Fischer) and doing pranks against his office-mate, the clever person Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson). Ryan Howard begun out as a youthful, intelligent, confident temp but got himself a job at corporate HQ in New York after quickly figuring out the real office politics regardless of Michael Scotts’ efforts to inculcate the official perspective. The corporate headquarters faces the problem of downsizing and the branch faces a possible closure. But Michael Scott denies the possibility to his staff in order to maintain the employee’s morale.
