Asus Released a New Device - Asus P656 Phone

After weeks, actually months of teasing, here you are the Asus P656, the very first Windows Mobile 6.1 phone to receive a 800MHz CPU (Marvell TavorP). Featuring a 2.8 VGA LCD and the Glide technology (equivalent to the Touch one from HTC), this new WiMo device is fully loaded with HSDPA 3.6Mbps, UMTS 2100, EDGE/GPRS/GSM 900/1800/1900, Class 10, 256MB of Flash Memory and 128 MB of DDR SDRAM, Wifi B/G, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, a 3Mpix AF camera, GPS, microSD with SDHC support for a total size of 102 x 60.5 x 16 mm and 120g.

Now this said, we may all be excited by this 800MHz CPU, but whatever CPU you put on a badly designed device, you will still get a bad experience. I am not saying that this P656 is crap, but after being used for over 10 years now Windows Mobile PDA and Smartphone, I can assure you that is Asus did not fine tweak its P565 you will be far to get the full potential of this 800MHz. Also we are not talking about your average Intel CPU here, so do not get confused, this CPU may not be as powerful as an old good 800MHz PIII for example. Nevertheless, I am happy to see that Asus released a new device, a powerful one on the paper with a descent VGA screen.

Super Fast - The HTC MAX 4G Phone

Taiwanese manufacturer HTC, maker of the Android G1 handset, has unveiled the world’s first 4G mobile handset, the HTC MAX 4G, capable of speeds of up to 70 megabytes per second.

The handset runs Windows Mobile 6.1 and sports a 3.8-inch touchscreen with 480×800 resolution.

It allows high quality mobile television to be streamed over the network thanks to the high bandwidth opportunities, as well as super-fast movies, games and maps to be delivered to the handset.

WiMAX works in a similar way to Wi-Fi, but over a much larger area. The 70Mb/s speed is only applicable for handsets very close to the source… a more accurate figure is 10Mb/s over a 10Km range. But still super fast.

The deal with Scartel also allows another 4G connected handset to be contacted using VOIP over the network, and will work with any SIM card in Russia. Though that’s not much use over here in Blighty.

Samsung Launched OMNIA’s Big Brother In Korea - The T*OMNIA

Samsung Korea announced yesterday the T*OMNIA, the OMNIA’s big brother. If basically both the OMNIA and T*OMNIA phones are similar, the Korean version has however 4 improved features, with :

- A slightly larger Screen 3.3” (Regular OMNIA has only a 3.22”)
- A Higher Screen Resolution of 480 x 800 (Regular OMNIA has only a 240 x 400 screen resolution)
- A DMB TV Tuner (Digital TV Tuner)

Except the above mentioned differences and a larger size (115.2 x 58.1 x 13.65 mm), the T*OMNIA smartphone received the same features than its little bother.
It is interesting to underline here that this T*OMNIA is using the same hardware (Digital TV tuner, Screen Size and Resolution) has the Japanese OMNIA, the 930SC, that we had the chance to play with a couple of days ago, with the exception of having on the Korean Version a Windows Mobile 6.1 OS.
