Winged Foot Golf Club Is Sued Over Errant Golf Balls

posted by MrBusinessGolf
For all of the homeowners who own a home that is along the fairways of the World's golf courses, his story published yesterday in the New York Times will be of interest and might be one to follow. I know I and my neighbors will be watching this one. ...

Course reviews - Review: Ealing Golf Club

posted by suraniku
You can count the number of courses within a five minute walk from a London Underground station on the fingers of a golf glove but Ealing GC is one of those.

A mere strong three iron from the exit of Perivale tube stop, and a mere half hour from central London on the Central Line, lies Ealing Golf Club.

The Course was first designed in 1898 by Harry Varden and was later improved by Harry Colt, one of the greatest of all golf architects.

It's Colt's touch that improves the course from a pretty bog standard parkland course to a decent track with a great location.

At 6144 yards, it's not too long but tight fairways and the presence of the River Brent on many holes keep you interested.

Major improvements to tees and bunkers have been completed in the last two years and the greens are in excellent condition.

The first six holes are the toughest third of the course with the three par fours, the first at 437 yards, the second at 394 yards and the sixth at 458 yards, not only long but with out of bounds running tightly down the left hand side.

The Brent makes an appearance in front of the sixth green, the stroke index of one suggesting several mid-to-long iron second shots have made a splash here.

The par three third and fifth are over 200 yards whilst the short par-four fourth is a short, dog-left left which although very driveable has a water hazard to the left of the green and deep rough to the right - encouraging the lay-up off the tee.

Holes seven through 12 are the pay-off and all are on the easy side especially the latter three when you cross the road behind the shop. It almost resembles a pitch and putt with a short par three and two straightforward par fours.

But the course bites back with the 13rd, a 413-yard par four with again the second shot required to clear the stream in front of the green whilst 14, at 227 yards, requires a solid connection with a long iron for the handicap golfer.

15 through to 17 are par fours that again allow you to make up shots before you cross to the last, a 171-yard par three with water close enough to the left-hand side of the green to make you repeat the mantra on the tee 'don't hook it'.

The course is good enough to host many major competitions including the EGU South Eastern Qualifying Competition and although the noise of the A40 is background music on several holes, when you can be walking around Soho in your plus fours within thirty minutes it's a small price to pay.

Overall: A fair course for the teen handicapper and in excellent nick. There's enough going on to punish the bad shots without it ever being a drive and a wedge layout. And you can't knock it's location.

Favourite hole: The par-four sixth is tough enough at 458 off the white tees and 441 yards off the yellows. Throw in the ravine in front of the green and it makes the second a shot a tricky prospect.

Value for money: If you have 11 mates - then not bad. Society packages begin at £65 - lunch and bacon rolls included or a regulation two, three or four ball will set you back £40. The club also welcomes new members, without a proposer or seconder, with a full seven day membership weighing in at £1300.

Source : uk.eurosport.yahoo.com
