Magneto Movie in the Works? Maybe

A synopsis for “X-Men Origins: Magneto” has been revealed . Producer of the X-Men triology and the Wolverine prequel ,Lauren Shuler Donner said that if the “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” makes a ton of cash then Fox will give the Magneto version of the X-men prequel a green light . The Wolverine prequel is due out on May 1,2009 . She went on to say that they have already written some of the script for the Magneto version and are just waiting. Right now it’s just kind of in limbo.

I personally hope “Magneto” gets made. I think it would be interesting to see the origins of all the X-men characters.

The plot/synopsis : A look at the earlier life between Eric Lensherr and his friend Charles Xavier. The movie will address a younger magneto and how he first came to discover his powers. Professor Xavier meets Magneto after te war and they develop a bond with each other after realizing they share special powers,but soon their differences turn them against each other and they become enemies.

Producer of the X-Men trilogy and upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Lauren Shuler Donner, spoke briefly with Empire and got a small update on X-Men Origins: Magneto:

“I think first we wanted to make Wolverine, and then David [Goyer, the attached director] took another film, and there wasn’t a lot of time,” she said. “But I’d like to make that – we’ll have to see.”

Details of the plot have remained vague thus far, but Shuler Donner was happy to tell us shed a little light on things. “We have a script on Magneto which is actually sort of Magneto and Charles Xavier,” she said. “It’s Erik and Charles in their early, early years.”

This idea falls in line with the recent trade magazine Production Weekly synopsis of the film or rather a bit of info about the plot of the film:

“The original X-Men film began with a prologue that showed the character as a child being led to a concentration camp by Nazis and that is the period in which the Magneto film will take place. This setup will allow a future villain to at least flirt with the designation of protagonist since the character will be seen almost exclusively in his formative years.”

“The storyline will heavily involve Professor X, the wheelchair-using X-Men leader. That character was a soldier in the allied force that liberated the concentration camps. The professor meets Magneto after the war and while they bond over the realization that they are alike in their special powers, their differences soon turn them into enemies.”

Ian McKellen is attached to the film but will likely serve as a narrator and a younger actor will play Erik. Goyer is still tied to the project and we will see it whenever he decides to do it or if X-Men Origins: Wolverine makes tons of money next May, which I am sure it will.

Director David Goyer is set to work on a Magneto movie. No release date yet though, as the movie has not even kicked in production. But the screenplay has already been drafted by Scriptwriter Sheldon Turner. That’s why we may nonetheless have an official synopsis of this Magneto movie:

Magneto Plot Synopsis

The original X-Men Origins film began with a prologue that showed the character as a child being led to a concentration camp by Nazis and that is the period in which the Magneto film will take place. This setup will allow a future villain to at least flirt with the designation of protagonist since the character will be seen almost exclusively in his formative years.
The storyline will heavily involve Professor X, the wheelchair-using X-Men leader. That character was a soldier in the allied force that liberated the concentration camps. The professor meets Magneto after the war and while they bond over the realisation that they are alike in their special powers, their differences soon turn them into enemies.

Unfortunately the movie Magneto is in stand by for now because Fox can’t devote resources to a new project until Wolverine is out. Too bad Marvel can’t take back the rights of the Magneto movie! But if Fox keep postponing it, Marvel will get it back around 2012 (would be sad to have to wait so long though…).

Let’s hope there will be some crossover between the upcoming Wolverine movie and Magneto. I pray for Fox to learn from Marvel’s success!

Details Emerge About 'Magneto' Storyline

Although a couple of movies that opened this May had disappointing American box office returns (Speed Racer, Prince Caspian), it's almost a guarantee that May 2009 will be hit after hit...after hit...after hit.

Leading the way, at least chronologically, is X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It's a great way to continue the franchise by giving the primary characters their own standalone projects. As of now, the only other Origins movie even announced is Magneto. Production Weekly has received an "official" plot summary (and we'll say "official" until it comes directly from Fox or writer-director David Goyer) that reveals a lot of Charles Xavier, believe it or not.
