Two Americas - but its generational not party affiliation

posted by dailyclarity

There has been a great deal of coverage about the two Americas - a country divided by ideology and party affiliation. There has also been much discussion about the insular nature of the US people resulting in a history of inappropriate foreign policy. It is a fact that overall only 16% of Americans hold passports and as a result have a rather xenophobic view of the world. To paraphrase Matt Damon, ‘…Americans could benefit from getting fatter. Fatter passports. When you get out in the world you see issues from a whole new perspective.’

Well to quote another American icon, ‘the times they are a changing’. John Zogby, in his new book “The Way We Will Be - The Transformation of the American Dream’, cites a growing division in America but not on party affiliation but rather by age. Young Americans see themselves much more world citizens and much more attuned to the nuances of the international world. 56% of the 18-29 age range have passports and 23% of them see themselves living and working overseas during their career. This is a refreshing change and one that may well shift the perception of America into a more positive light in the eyes of the world. This is the generation that is mobilizing behind Obama and his his message of change. It will be interesting to see the results of the election and whether America’s new world citizens are heard or whether the old generation of insular Americans hold on for four or eight more years.

The Ding Dong Drinker

posted by TigerLillian

I have a friend who has been really so so with me. I'm not sure why he has been so shady to me, I'm absouletely positive it isn't my social drinking habits. But it just might be the fact that we can't really do anything but drink with each other.

Just a few beers, nothing too edgy. So the point of this blog is to get my mind off the whole ordeal. It's been a week since I've talked to him so hopefully something will work out. What a ding dong! I'm just scared that he's upset at the fact I'd like to know him besides the drinking habits.

posted by redchaos
Time for your unscheduled dose of random curiosity…this made me laugh. It seems that Gatorade is worse then coke…
It has been written in many sports blogs this week; that Florida stole the idea of Gatorade from FSU. Around 1962, The team doctor for the FSU football team, Dr. R.A. Johnson, began producing a sports drink [...]

Get The Kiddie-Cuffs. We Now Arrest 6 Year Olds

posted by redchaos
Has society gone so far down the hole that we are arresting kids for …..oh, I don’t know acting like kids? A six year old girl was arrested in her kindergarten class for being “disruptive”. In another story a 13 year old girl was arrested for writing the words “OK” on her desk. What ever [...]
