‘Scrubs’ Heads to TV Land on Labor Day

Scrubs fans are in for a holiday treat this Labor Day as TV Land will be getting their fill of the ABC series, which stars Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke and John C. McGinley, among others. The series will premiere on Labor Day with a 7-hour marathon on Monday, September 1st. Scrubs is the newest addition to TV Land’s fall line-up, and is scheduled to air at 9pm from Mondays to Fridays.

“‘Scrubs’ is the perfect contemporary acquisition for TV Land as the network continues to grow as the ultimate entertainment network for people in their 40s and 50s,” TV Land president Larry W. Jones said in a statement. “Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison and the entire cast is at their comedic best and their neurotic and side-splitting antics keep viewers laughing all night long. The quick-wit and humor of this series definitely appeals to our audience, and it is precisely the reason why TV Land voted it the winner of the 2001 Future Classic Award.”

I wouldn't exactly call it the worst finale ever. In spite of some things --- like Dr. Kelso still working as Chief when, just last week, he opted to retire from his job and Dr. Cox has replaced him; or Keith briefly appearing this episode after his bitter break-up with Elliot. I swear, I did stop midway through and thought I was watching an episode from last season.

But whatever was wrong with the sequencing and continuity didn't matter to me because despite what you may have read about this being the worst finale ever, elsewhere --- I loved it. My son loved it. And I would consider this as a classic, definitely. If anything, the episode was very Scrub-esque (c'mon....fantasy? princess, knights on horses, magic potions?).

Directed by Zach Braff, the final episode was narrated by Dr. Cox as a fairy tale story he was telling his son, Jack but with the real story running parallel to the fantasy.

In "My Princess", the Village Idiot, JD, is trying to help the princess, Elliot, thwart an evil monster (which looked like that black smoke from Lost) that had affected her maiden/patient. Dr. Cox played the knight, Percival, who guides the two.

The rest of the cast didn't have a lot to do with the main story but their fairy tale alter egos were purely entertaining. Couples Carla and Turk played one person --- a two-headed sorcerer/res named Turla. The janitor was Giant Janitor and Dr. Kelso was the evil Lord Oslek, with a devil's outfit to match. Even Ted the lawyer had a fairy tale character counterpart in Toadie, Lord Oslek's servant.

This show has seen its last episode on NBC. Zach Braff has confirmed they're shooting Season 8 already, but this will be aired on ABC this fall.

"Scrubs" is officially the never ending sitcom! The show's star Zach Braff confirmed rumors that the show isn't really over. Instead it is just moving from NBC to ABC. "From: Zach Braff Date: May 12, 2008 11:01 AM Subject: Scrubs moves to ABC Dear friends, Many of you have been understandably confused by the Fairy Tale episode of Scrubs serving as the series finale. It was not. I was not allowed to say it until today, but Scrubs will be moving to ABC for its final season. We are currently filming the 8th and final season. The true finale of the show will air on ABC in the fall. NBC merely promoted the Fairy Tale episode as the finale, as it was the last episode they owned. Also, several of you were very confused by the fact that Dr. Kelso and Laverne were still working at the hospital in the Fairy Tale episode. Because of the writer's strike, the last remaining episodes for NBC were aired out of order. This is why Dr. Kelso was still chief of medicine. That was not Laverne however, for those of you who have been following closely; it was a new nurse "Shirley" who no one thinks looks anything like Laverne except for JD.
