Ronaldo vs Zidane to be Aired on Fox Soccer Channel

The charity match between Ronaldo and Zidane will be aired on Fox Soccer Channel on Monday the 17th of November.

Kicking off at 1:00 p.m. ET, captains Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo will lead two of the most accomplished teams ever assembled. Stars confirmed to appear include: Victor Valdes and Seydou Keita (FC Barcelona), Anatoliy Tymoshchuk (Zenit St. Petersburg), Joseba Etxeberria (Athletico Bilbao), Ivan Leko (Club Brugge) and Lauren (Portsmouth).

Zinedine Zidane has revealed the story behind his move to Real Madrid

French superstar Zinedine Zidane has revealed that Juventus didn't want to transfer him to Real Madrid in 2001.

Zidane was sold to the Spanish champions for a world record transfer fee believed to be around £45.6 million.

The Frenchman had given evidence regarding the Calciopoli scandal which involved former Juventus directors Luciano Moggi, Roberto Bettega and Antonio Giraudo, who were all involved in the deal that took Zidane from Turin to the Spanish capital.

Now, some of the conversation Zidane had with Moggi's solicitors Andrea and Michele Gallasso in a hotel room near Turin's Caselle airport has been published by La Stampa.

"The Juventus directors maintained a negative attitude regarding the move," Zidane is quoted as saying by La Stampa.

"The relationship between my agent Alain Migliaccio and the club started to crack.

"Then we spoke to one of Moggi's solicitors D'Onofrio who had good relationships with Bettega, Giraudo and Moggi, and his intervention was the factor which determined the outcome."

Materazzi accepts damages over Zidane report

Italian defender Marco Materazzi has accepted substantial damages from the Daily Mail over the newspaper's claims he racially abused Zinedine Zidane during the 2006 World Cup final.

In its coverage of the match, the newspaper published a picture of Materazzi being headbutted by Zidane, captioned "Revealed: the insult that made Zidane see red."

Zidane was sent off in extra time for headbutting the Italian defender and Italy went on to win the title with Materazzi scoring one of the decisive spot kicks in the penalty shootout.

The articles wrongly stated that Materazzi had called Zidane, whose parents are Algerian, "the son of a terrorist whore."

The newspaper also published similar accusations on its website from July to December that year.

The newspaper has accepted that all of the allegations were completely untrue and that there was no question of Materazzi having used racist comments to provoke Zidane.

Associated Newspapers, the group that owns the Daily Mail, offered its apologies for the distress caused by its reports, and had agreed to pay Materazzi substantial damages and his costs.

However, the amount paid out in damages was not disclosed.

Materazzi did not appear at the hearing.

I Miss Zinedine Zidane So Much

Tonight I’m really upset, and I want to share this feeling. Indeed, Holland just beat France 4-1.

It’s everything but a good year for French sports. We didn’t make it during the Rugby world championship, Laure Manaudou is swimming poorly, Federer ejected Gael Monfils at Roland Garros, and then the French football team isn’t doing well.

I won’t criticize Holland's performance, because they played well, and I will support them if we don’t make it past group stage. They were just too good for us tonight, and I hope we won’t carry on this way. Remember, France was the finalist of last World Cup, and would have been world champions for the second time if the Italians hadn't won.

So what happened to us? Why didn’t we win that game? Of course, the orange selection was the better one tonight, but we also didn’t play well.

Henry was missing. He didn't do his job half the time, but simply waited for the ball to come to him instead of fighting for it. However, according to him "if you’re not on the field, you can’t judge."

The defense missed Viera, and Domenech is just an asshole. Instead of giving a chance to young bloods (Bensema, Nasri, or Mexes), he just kept the same players on the field (i.e. Henry). He didn’t respect his players, whom he made warm up without making them play.

So, while Robben and his dream team of Van something was destroying my pride of being a French supporter, I was hoping for Zidane (aka, God of Soccer) to appear like Mickeal Jordan did in Space Jam.

Just imagine him walking on the grass, every player looking at him, and giving him some place to create a path, and then, looking at the sky, the supporters, the lights, and finally the goalkeeper. Wow, tremendous, my spine is freezing!

Unfortunately, it won’t happen, and I just want the French selection to do better Wednesday against those Italians. Because, if they don't, they'll get really bad press, and will be booed. Because, unless you have enough time to be PRs (i.e. the whole team), you better play like gods.

So, congratulations to Holland, I wish you the best, you deserve it. Robben did right by shutting Henry’s mouth.
