Isn’t it really frustrating when you feel like you have been ripped off? This is the sort of feeling you get when you have been scammed. Scamming is by some way or another to take your money or items by deceiving them. In this guide I will explain how to avoid common and less common scams and how to recognise a scam even if it is not in this guide.

Below are some ways of runescape Scammer usually used to cheat and scam in game.

Money Swap Runescape Scam

An old scam has resurfaced! The trick by which someone will offer you a large sum of money for an item, and then they will add another item to the trade, and magically, the large sum of money has exponentially decreased. There are many variations to this scam.

Example:
Person A is selling a Saradomin full helm.
Person B trades Person A, and puts up 1000k.
Person B then reduces the amount of money to 10004, adding another item at the exact same time.
Person A Accepts. HOPEFULLY notices the change, and declines.

Watch out for this scam. Always check the second screen. If you are dealling with thousands, you will see —-k, if you are dealling with millions, you will see —-M. Always check the amount of money on the second screen, as it may not be visible on the first.

Free armor trimming As Scam
armor cant be trimes, its made the way it is, dont trade your armor to anyone who says they can trim it

Free Runescape gem cutting, smithing, fletching as Scam
half the time these are legit, half are scams, do not let them do it without collateral, if they are truely just doing it for exp, they wouldnt mind giving you a semi equal in value item to hold onto while they do your task. Remeber, waiting for friends is normally the safest.

Runescape Trimming/Upgrading armour As scam

Remember that no one (not even members) can upgrade or trim armour for you. The (t) and (g) armors you see in game are all gotten from Treasure Trails, a mini game for members. Do report all instances where a player offers to trim or upgrade your items.

One Selling, One Buying Runescape Scam

This will often occur in a crowded marketplace, with friends teaming up to scam you.  Here’s how it works…

Person A and B are friends; Person C is a regular player.
Person B: ‘Selling Dragon Long 110k’
Person A: ‘Buying Dragon Long 150k!!’
Person C thinks: WOW! If I buy this from Person B for 110, and sell for 150k, I can make 40k profit!!!’
Person C: Trades Person B; buys Dragon Long; trades with Person A; Person A declines and logs off.

Quitting RS and Auctions Stuff AS scam

A person states they are quitting Runscape and are ‘auctioning’ their stuff, they ask you to give them your bids so he can see who bids the highest, the winner gets all his stuff, and the loosers get their gear back — scammer teleports away and you loose your gear

Runescape Duplicating items Scam

Just like the scam above, there is absolutely *no* way anyone can duplicate your items. Be careful and report when you see anyone offering to do that.

Runescape Item Scam, “auction scam”

First off there is this person who says Free Santa or something like that. Then he will stir up a crowd and get them to gather around a certain area.

He would say the person who gives me the best stuff gets my santa. He would accept small trades of like 5- 6 gold and he would return them. When the people get really desperate over the item, they would go and give more valuable stuff like rune picks and stuff.

However, the scammer won’t give this back. He will just keep the items to himself and won’t give the santa or anything away

Runescape Impersonating Jagex to gain items As scam

All Jagex moderators have a gold crown next to their name. (In private message as well) In addition, their names always start with a “Mod”. Remember never to believe in people claiming to be Jagex in order to gain your items, they are most likely scamming and you should report them under “Item Scamming”.

These items are:
4-dose potions, Charcoal, Machette, Crushed gemstone, Spinach roll, Elemental shields, Paramaya Inn ticket, Gnome ball, Pete’s candlestick, Toy horses, Unfermented wine, Bad wine, Shantay Disclaimer, Half-pizzas, Hollow Reed, Colored gloves, Gold nuggets, Black items, Black Claws, Black Scimitar, The Shield of Arrav (both halves), Eye patches, Lit arrows, Black staffs, Shade robes, Sliced bananas, SGG (Short-Green-Guy -Gnome Drink-, Snelms (Snail Helmets), Bark, Cleaning Cloth, Palm leaves, Flametaer Hammers, Grog, Karamja Rum, Vodka, certain seeds, farming equipment, Rock hammer(in relation to granite maul).

Follow Me/Help Me to/at xxx for free stuff As scam
In This scam the scammer asks you for desperate help and asks you to follow him, along the way he befriends you and talks to you nicely, he drags you to a secluded place where most likely you would be killed, whether it be deep wilderness or high level zone, its the scammers choice, either way, dont follow him.
