More a tree lover than a tree hugger I have to say that nothing fails to amaze me more than the magnificence of some of the beauties that we have in and around Stratters, especially this time of the year when they are getting ready to shed their clothes... This monster (in the nicest possible way) is to be found in the RSC Gardens. And so is this one. This fantastic tree (centre), I had never noticed before until I took this photo of the building mayhem outside Stratford Railway station and suddenly there it was in all its wonderful glory. At least it ... Read Full Story

Before I give my much awaited verdict on the the Bancroft Gardens, I'm going to keep Stratford upon Avon waiting just a little longer by saying first of all, that I'm surprised. Surprised and more than a little amazed that the Bancroft project was 'finished' in time for the Birthday Celebrations. I understand from newspaper reports that it was a bit of a white knuckle ride and right up to the wire, but somehow they ('they' being the three workers who were assigned to the expensive project right from the beginning), pulled it off. W ell done chaps. So, what do I think? Has ... Read Full Story

I went to a talk today given by a friend of mine who’s a Tourist Guide in a number of cities and towns around the UK, including Stratford upon Avon. What we got was an extremely interesting talk punctuated by some quite amazing tales of her experiences with that strangest of breed, the American Tourist. It’s a very sad thing to say especially in this day and age, but our cousins from over the water do appear to have a very insular world view and a complete lack of any historical sense. No wonder so many of them don’t have any problem with Creationism. ... Read Full Story

(Thanks UKSBD) We don't get many murders in Stratford...so when we do, we expect the full Press Treatment... ...however we don't expect the piece to finish with such a lighthearted flourish... I haven't laughed so much since the Editor spelt 'GCSE' wrong. online advertising Read Full Story

I was just having a browse through my favourite local newspaper (The Stratford upon Avon Herald) before filing it in the cat litter tray, when I came across the most astounding figures concerning compensation pay-outs across the West Midlands. Apparently, in the last 5 years the West Midlands , that's Councils and their insurers have payed out a total of - wait for it - the grand sum of - £62 Million smackeroonis. Most of the dosh going to people who have tripped up, been eaten by lions, or disappeared down cavernous holes in the pavements ( I made some of this up). Stratford ... Read Full Story

Courtyard, Stratford-upon-Avon: Gregory Doran's Illyia is an exotic Turkish land of hookahs, carpets, cushions, carpets, orthodox priests, bazaars, vibrant live folk music and west meets east in which he places the mercurial melancholy which underpins this strange play - one of Shakespeare's funniest and in Doran's hands also one of his saddest.
