It has been confirmed that the State of Alaska has hired a private lawyer to represent Sarah Palin in an investigation that she abused her powers as Alaska’s governor. Attorney Thomas Van Flein is representing Palin and other members of the her office involved in the probe. Palin is being investigated by Alaska’s legislature over allegations arising from the sacking of the state’s public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan, who was fired earlier this year. It’s alleged that Monegan was removed because he refused to fire a state trooper who was the governor’s ex-brother-in-law. Steve Branchflower is the special counsel hired by the Alaska legislature ... Read Full Story

But, alas, there IS substance… and is it ever extreme! The TV report below on Palin’s ethics problems in Alaska was aired on August 14th. Was McCain’s so-called vetting operation so lame that they missed this? I mean it was on the biggest TV station in the state. And as for Palin’s earth-shattering approval ratings… well 87.8% of people who took this poll think she’s lying about Trooper-gate. And McCain is trying to sell her to the American public– despite her thin resume and lack of qualifications– based on her being a supposed squeaky clean reformer ? In fact, her flippitty-floppitty relationship to the ... Read Full Story

The political career of Sarah Palin, Sen. John McCain’s vice presidential pick, has been marked by conflicts, score-settling and her own claim that she faces “enemies – powerful enemies.” But the 44-year-old first-term Alaska governor is a favorite of right-wing Christian groups and was hailed Friday by one organization as “a true Christian” who is “pro-life and pro-marriage.” She also has favored the teaching of creationism in Alaska’s schools. After the surprise announcement Friday, the McCain campaign tried to frame Palin as a reformer who has taken on corruption in Alaska. However, an examination of her career as a small-town mayor and inexperienced governor ... Read Full Story

I may be one of the few people in the continental United States who could tell you who Walt Monegan is without having to read a news story or a Wikipedia entry on Sarah Palin . All you probably know is that Palin, the Alaska governor whom John McCain picked as his vice presidential running mate, is being investigated because of claims that she or others in her administration abused their power or improperly pressured Monegan to fire a state trooper who is Palin's ex-brother-in-law. Palin dismissed Monegan from his state public safety commissioner post in July, and has provided several explanations for the ... Read Full Story

Her shit does stink After telling Charlie Gibson she “welcomes” the investigation into her firing of Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, Palin now has second thoughts. Figures; where at first it seemed fun to be the VP candidate (and a great reason to buy some new lipstick!) she is now slowly realizing being in the public eye isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. For instance, people suddenly hold you, like, accountable . Who expected that?! It must be the Democrats’ fault! After Alaska lawmakers voted last Friday to subpoena Palin’s husband, several aides, and multiple phone records, the Palin camp was quick to ... Read Full Story
"I had the pleasure of working with Walt on the WSIN Board of Directors for the past couple of years. He is a consummate professional and we will miss him. I don't know what brought this on but Alaska is losing a great leader and member of law enforcement."

"I'm a supporter of Sarah Palin but this firing doesn't pass the smell test to me. I'm not sure why the governor fired Monegan and I understand that he serves at her pleasure but a few things bother me.

1. Monegan in his position as public safety commissioner was in her "cabinet". If you're going to fire a cabinet member, you should have the fortitude to do it to their face. He served in an honorable manner and she owed him that much. To send her lackey to do it seems cowardly to me.
2. To offer him a position that was subordinate to his old position knowing all along he would never take it makes her look even more disingenuous. I am sure this was a face saving thing for her. It didn't work.
3. Not giving a person a reason when you reject them is blatantly unfair and it makes people not want to serve.

He served his state for something like 35 years. He deserved more. I feel the governor owes us citizens an answer besides, "it was time for a change"."

Looking for a scapegoat for her poor showing in New York’s 23rd Congressional race, Dede Scozzafava has chosen every liberals favorite, Sarah Palin. Scozzafava in an interview slammed Sarah Palin for “attacking” her, when in reality Palin only endorsed her opponent Doug Hoffman. But then again to liberals if you don’t support them you’re attacking them. I love the way the media is describing Dede Scozzafava even now; they say she’s a “moderate...

Filed under: Woman UpOur Capitolist friend Pat Murphy reports that Hillary Clinton has effectively posted a notice to PUMAs, and to the rest of us, she's not running for president ever again. In effect saying she's already a big girl in a big job and feels very comfortable with the way things have turned out ("maybe it's a woman thing"), the past first lady and former U.S. senator told Ann Curry on NBC's "Today Show" she will let the job of...

Facts about Sarah Palin by Dewie Whetsell, Alaskan Fisherman The last 45 of my 66 years I've spent in a commercial fishing town in Alaska. I understand Alaska politics but never understood national politics well until this last year. Here's the breaking point: Neither side of the Palin controversy gets it. It's not about persona, style, rhetoric, it's about doing things. Even Palin supporters never mention the things that I'm about to mention...

Both Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin wrote, and published, op-eds this morning. While Secretary Clinton argues that food security and agricultural stability is vital to national security in the Guardian, Palin pushes "drill baby drill" in the National Review. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is once again using her clout to shed light on important issues that were pushed to the side during the bloodthirsty Bush Administration. In addition to...
