How To Train Your Dog

Television, books and magazines are all good sources for tips and advice on training an obedient dog.

Everyone knows from experience that a well-trained dog is much more pleasant to be around than one who is not obedient. Many dog owners fail to spend the time needed to train their pet properly, despite having access to plenty of resources and advice. When the dog begins to act exactly like a dog should, the owners decide they no longer like it.

If your puppy is alone and digging holes in backyard, it is an example that it needs attention. You should not expect your puppy to wait to be given attention for a long period of time and to do so quietly. There are some breeds where digging is an instinctual thing to do. There are some dogs that dig very little and there are others that are very intense about it. Dog misbehavior like barking, chewing, whining and digging is often done out of boredom.

Dogs are born with a canine brain and it is important to remember that. Dogs would rather have others around and do not like to be alone. Puppies are fun and full of enrgy but they do not understand right from wrong unless you train them. Our domestic dogs see us as their human companions and they love praise for their efforts in learning all that we can teach them. Dogs need to have a purpose and feel that they are pleasing us with all they have learned.

Untrained dogs may develop negative behaviors that often result in the owners giving up their pet. Is this how a dog deserves to be treated? This is not a good thing for your the dog you love. When you take in a dog, you need to realize there is an obligation to be a good owner.

Shelters contain many fine dogs that were turned in or abandoned by their owners because of behavioral problems. There is a dog out there wanting you to be the person who loves them and trains them. A dog that has had the benefit of obedience training, is so much easier to "find a good home" for if you find you can not provide that home. Every dog needs to learn to come when it is called and to be trained to walk on a leash.

It is easy to find a professional dog trainer in most locations. If you do not have the time, or the temperment to train your dog, many animal shelters offer training classes at reasonable fees. Working directly with your dog on training will make your relationship a stronger and more loving one. You will really enjoy getting to know your dog and spending more time with him/her. You need to exercise patience when training your dog, you can't do this by yelling, pulling or smacking your pet. Making your dog fear you will not train them.

Do some research on the breed of dog you think you may want, before considering that first dog or new addition to the family. Studying the traits of their paticular breed will be an advantage in learning why dogs act the way that they do. Much like humans, every dog has its own distinct personality traits. They also show their feelings on their faces same as human beings. You can easily see if your dog is in a good mood or sad.

You couldn't ask for a better best friend than your dog, who is always loving and loyal. Your loyal and devoted dog deserves the best obedience training you can provide.
