Margot Robbie Portrays Infamous Figure Skater Tonya Harding in the New Trailer for 'I, Tonya'
Harding was suspected of orchestrating a violent attack on competitor Nancy Kerrigan in 1994.
The new trailer for I, Tonya reveals a glorious first look at Margot Robbie as American figure skater Tonya Harding. Harding came under severe scrutiny in 1994 after her would-be competitor, Nancy Kerrigan, was brutally attacked. Since then, her impressive achievements in the sport have been overshadowed by the scandal.
"America," Robbie's Harding states in the trailer. "They want someone to love, but they want someone to hate. The haters always say, 'Tonya, tell the truth.' There's no such thing as 'truth,' I mean, it's bullshit."
The film is described as a darkly comedic portrayal of Harding's character, which is reflected in the campy video below.
I, Tonya also stars Sebastian Stan as Harding's ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly, and Allison Janney as her mother, LaVona Golden. The film was written by Steven Rogers and directed by Craig Gillespie.
Robbie also promoted the trailer on Thursday, Oct. 19, sharing a clip to Instagram.
"This is the VERY FIRST LOOK at @itonyamovie also starring @imsebastianstan and #allisonjanney," she wrote. "Coming soon to theaters!"
Catch I, Tonya in theaters this winter.
