She was born in New York City and raised in Philadelphia, but she got her first big break after joining LAByrinth Theatre Company and being directed by Phillip Seymour Hoffman in the off-Broadway production "In Arabia, We'd All Be Kings."
Ortiz and her Ugly Betty co-star America Ferrera.
On TV, Ana appeared in shows like NYPD Blue, Boston Legal and ER before scoring a spot on Ugly Betty. She was also in the TV movie Labor Pains alongside Lindsay Lohan.
Recently, according to Hissip.com, Ana has been campaigning for Latino workers. She collaborated with PETA to write a letter to National Council of La Raza asking them not to partner with McDonald's due to the chain's poor treatment of animals and disrespect for Latino employees.
