Anika Noni Rose Plays Tiana, First African American Disney Princess

(Getty Images)more pics »Anika Noni Rose is the voice of Tiana in the Disney animated movie The Princess and the Frog, which opens in wide release in theaters today. Princess Tiana is the first African American Disney princess, and the family flick is being screened for children from the Boys & Girls Club at Walmart stores in multiple states, according to CNN.

The film is loosely based on the ED Baker novel The Frog Princess, which was then turned into a Grimm Brothers fairytale, The Frog Prince. The Disney movie was originally called The Frog Princess, then was changed in April 2007. The first trailer of the movie premiere in 2008, so it's been a long wait for the 49th animated Disney feature.
The movie is about a prince who gets turned into a frog by a voodoo magician in the French Quarter of New Orleans in the 1920s. In order to break the spell and turn back into a prince, he must convince a princess to kiss him.
