The BET Awards went down Sunday night, live from the Shrine Auditorium, and it was an exciting, emotional night to say the least. The evening opened with a performance from Kanye West, who apparently decided enough time had passed since his VMA ordeal to be seen on an awards show stage again.

After that, host for the evening Queen Latifah emerged, chatted it up, and shortly after her intro, Alicia Keys was called up on stage to accept her Best Female R&B Artist award. The mom-to-be rocked a short, strapless number for the big night, and was sure to give her fiance Swizz Beatz a smooch before she got up and gave her speech. Aw.

Other big winners for the evening included Nicki Minaj with the Best Female Hip-Hop Artist win, while Drake won in the Hip-Hop category for the gents. Jay-Z and Alicia Keys won for Best Collaboration for their hit "Empire State of Mind." Trey Songz nabbed Best Male R&B Artist.

DON'T MISS:
The big to-do during the show was Chris Brown's tribute to Michael Jackson, in which he broke down in tears while singing "Man in the Mirror."

Prince received a Lifetime Achievement Award, and before he got up to accept the honor, a host of big names performed some of his hits. Patti LaBelle got up and sang, along with Ms. Keys, Esperanza Spalding, and Stevie Wonder. What a night!
