Benedict Cumberbatch Has Real Life 'Sherlock' Moment, Saves Delivery Driver From Mugging
The actor didn't hesitate to step in after he spotted a man being robbed on London's Marylebone High Street.
Saving the world from angry gods; turning back time with ancient spells; saving his fellow countrymen from criminals... It's all in a day's work for Benedict Cumberbatch!
On Saturday, June 2, Cumberbatch heroically leapt from his Uber to save a Deliveroo driver who was being mugged on London's Marylebone High Street. According to Uber driver Manuel Dias, the Sherlock star was in the car with his wife, Sophie Hunter, when he spotted the cyclist being hit with a bottle and jumped to action.
"I had hold of one lad and Benedict another," Dias told The Sun. "He seemed to know exactly what he was doing. He was very brave."
The actor reportedly dragged four muggers off the victim and yelled, "Leave him alone!" While the muggers tried to fight back, Cumberbatch successfully fought them off before they ran away.
"Here was Sherlock Holmes fighting off four attackers just round the corner from Baker Street," Dias said. "The cyclist was lucky, Benedict’s a superhero."
After the attack was over and the cyclist was safe, Cumberbatch made sure the victim was alright. "He asked the rider how he was and when he said, 'I’m okay,' Benedict just hugged him," Dias shared.
Well, well, well!
Food delivery service Deliveroo posted a tweet on Saturday to praise Cumberbatch for his courage.
"Thank you Benedict Cumberbatch for your brave actions," the tweet read. "Deliveroo riders are heroes - their safety is our priority and any violence against them is totally unacceptable. So on behalf of everyone at deliveroo: thank you."
Looks like not all superheroes wear capes after all!
