The Most Memorable Moments of the 2013 CMT Music Awards

On Wednesday evening, the 2013 CMT Music Awards drew a very glitzy crowd to Nashville's Bridgestone Arena, where attendees were treated to a massive celebration of country music across several stages. It was a twangy extravaganza packed with memorable performances and cutesy Kristen Bell moments.

Here's what we'll remember:

1. When Jason Aldean and Lenny Kravitz opened the show with a mildly patriotic classic rock tune.
The unlikely duo blazed through Kravitz's cover of "American Woman" with plenty of attitude, drawing some adorably energetic dancing from everyone's homegirl Taylor Swift. We're expecting a gif of that within the hour, Internets.

2. When Vince Vaughn, Lorraine Bracco, Dr. Drew, and Kelsey Grammer made decidedly non-country cameos.
In a pre-filmed skit, Aldean pays a visit to "Dr. Kristen Bell" to talk over his hosting gig, drawing a handful of surprising cameos from Bell's Hollywood pals. Unfortunately, Aldean's Swingers reference was totally lost on the audience.

3. When Jason Aldean couldn't help but compliment Taylor Swift.
Kristen Bell played adorably clueless, as is her way, and acted like she and Aldean were prepared to rip people apart in their opening monologue. "It's time to tear you people a new one!" she shrieked. Using "awards show law," the pair determine that Taylor Swift is first on the hit list, but all Aldean can manage to say to Taylor is "Country music is always going to be your home and we thank you for that." YEAH BURN.

4. When they cut off Cassadee Pope's performance for the commercial break.
Cassadee only got through the first minute or so of her new single "Wasted All These Tears" before the producers cut away to commercial break. Way harsh, CMT. But Pope's coach on The Voice, Blake Shelton, can't be too mad: His wife Miranda Lambert got through her whole song without any interruptions.

5. When Kacey Musgraves performed a song called "Blowin' Smoke" immediately after an extremely depressing anti-smoking commercial.
That happened.

6. When Darius Rucker proved immensely likable during his performance of "Wagon Wheel."
You may have issues with Rucker covering an Old Crow Medicine Show classic, but you can't deny that Hootie seems like the friendliest country bro in the world. After making his way through the star-studded audience and doling out some hugs, he got a lift on his harmonies from Lady Antebellum. The entire crowd was singing along by the song's end.

7. When Hunter Hayes had all the ladies screaming during his performance of "I Want Crazy."
Seriously. All ladies, sporting heart-shaped "CRAZY" sunglasses furnished by the producers, no doubt. It'd be unfair to call him the twangy Justin Bieber but with a crowd like that, it's kind of hard not to.

8. When Taylor Swift rocked out during her performance of "Red."
Taylor showed up in a black glittery romper and a gigantic red bustier-cape, which looked extra dramatic as she stormed around the stage with her guitar in front of a bunch of flag dancers. Yes: flag dancers.

9. Kristen Bell and Jason Aldean's decent karaoke moment.
Bell held her own on "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys." Where's her record deal?

10. Keith Urban and Little Big Town's performance of "The Chain."
That was a way better Fleetwood Mac-goes-country moment than that time Stevie Nicks and Taylor Swift sang a duet on "Rhiannon."

11. When Dax Shepard begged to be accepted into the Bacon brothers.
Tough luck, big guy.

12. When Miranda Lambert slurred her words during her presentation of Male Video of the Year.
She later admitted she was "drinking for two" since her husband Blake Shelton couldn't make it.

13. When Carrie Underwood dedicated her performance of "See You Again" to the victims of the Oklahoma tornadoes.
Carrie, who recently donated $1 million to relief efforts, was eventually joined by a gospel choir for a moving performance.

14. When Sheryl Crow and Kenny Rogers sang "Islands in the Stream" instead of just presenting Video of the Year already.
It was pretty cute to see Sheryl Crow pretend to be starstruck.

15. When Florida Georgia Line got both Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift to dance to their song "Cruise."
Nelly made his CMT Music Awards debut, along with a couple of breakdancers (ack) and an on-stage graffiti artist (double ack). But it's all good, even if we kind of miss Nelly's signature facial bandaids.
