Introducing 5 Seconds of Summer, One Direction's New Opening Band
(via Facebook)On Tuesday, Aussie four-piece 5 Seconds of Summer dropped a very big announcement on their Facebook fans: They'll be the supporting act on One Direction's 2013 world tour.
It's a pretty huge feat for a group that only came together a little over a year ago, although dedicated One Directioners have probably seen this coming for a while now. The band saw its popularity significantly boosted last year when 1D's Louis Tomlinson tweeted a link to one of their videos and proclaimed himself a fan.
From the band's recent posting on Facebook, it sounds like 5 Seconds of Summer and One Direction make up a very dapper little mutual admiration society:
Well a little while ago a lad by the name of Louis Tomlinson stumbled across a video of ours on YouTube, and long story short he showed the rest of the guys and they really liked what we were doing. One Direction wanted a band to come on tour with them! And well, we are a band and it’s so cool that we are what they wanted! We have known for a little while but have not been allowed to tell anyone until today. We have been so desperate to tell you. But now we can’t wait to show the world our tunes! And we cannot wait to make you all proud! The band — which is made up of schoolmates Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood, and drummer Ashton Irwin — released their first single, "Out of My Limit," last November.
