Carrie Underwood Explains The 'Gruesome' Accident That Left Her With 40-50 Stitches In Her Face
"If I had fallen anywhere else I would’ve been perfectly fine," the singer said. "But there was one step that messed everything up."
Carrie Underwood has finally shed light on the "gruesome" accident that left her with a broken wrist and 40-50 stitches in her face.
During a recent appearance on The Bobby Bones Show, the 35-year-old provided the unfortunate details of the fall, which occurred at her home as she was taking her dogs for a walk.
“I fell down… I was taking the dogs out and I just, I tripped," she said. "There was one step and I didn’t let go of the leashes. Priorities. So that's why my left hand is fine. But I went to catch myself and I just missed a step. If I had fallen anywhere else I would’ve been perfectly fine. But there was one step that messed everything up."
In the images below, the "Cry Pretty" songstress's faint scar can be seen just above her lip.
“It set me back," Underwood shared. "The most frustrating part was trying to work out with a broken wrist and how much it can throw off your world, having an appendage that is there, but you just can’t use.”
She did, however, believe that the timing was fortunate.
"I was lucky that when it happened, everything was kind of shutting down in the music world and we had the holidays and stuff like that," she said.
In a post shared to her blog about two months after the accident, Underwood told fans she "might look a bit different."
"I didn’t know what was going to go on," she explained during the show. "I didn’t know what it was going to heal like. I felt like it was important to me as I started resuming my life again, and going to the grocery store and taking my kid to school and stuff like that I was like, 'Okay, someone's going to creep on me at the grocery store and people are going to be like, what happened and post it on Instagram.'"
As it turns out, Underwood had nothing to worry about. During her performance at the 2018 ACM awards on Sunday, April 15 — her first public appearance since the accident — fans struggled to see any difference between her "new face" and her old one.
Happy healing, Carrie!
