The new two-part adaptation of Stephen King's It is fully in the works with scripts from True Detective's Cary Fukunaga, who's signed on to direct at least the first movie. And now it appears the filmmakers have their villainous star in place with Variety reporting that Will Poulter will play Pennywise, the terrifying clown originally immortalized by Tim Curry in the 1990 made-for-TV movie.

Poulter has shown breakout star potential with standout performances in We're the Millers and The Maze Runner. According to Variety, his audition was rumored to be ridiculously good, giving him the edge over seasoned character actors Mark Rylance and Ben Mendelsohn. His next project, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's grim-yet-beautiful-looking Revenant, will give us our first look at the young actor in a darker, more grown-up setting.
