According to the Detroit Free Press, the anonymous donor who shelled out $142,000 to help the Detroit Masonic Temple pay back taxes was none other than rocker Jack White. In honor of his gift, the Temple's theater — where he and Meg White performed several sold out shows as the White Stripes — is now the Jack White Theater.
"Jack's magnanimous generosity and unflinching loyalty to his historic building and his Detroit roots is appreciated beyond words," Detroit Masonic Temple Association president Roger Sobran gushed.
The Detroit Masonic Temple is the largest Masonic Temple in the world, and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1980.
