(Getty Images)more pics »Whe It really seemed like Jack White and Karen Elson had achieved the near-impossible: A truly amicable split in the public eye. They celebrated their 2011 divorce with a blowout party in Nashville, and Karen even sang backup on White's solo debut, Blunderbuss. But just last month, Elson filed a restraining order against White in the Tennessee courts, claiming that she fears for her own safety and the safety of her children.
Elson says that White, 38, has a "violent temper," which manifested in threatening phone calls, texts, and emails over custody arrangements for their two children. "This pattern of husband's bullying wife into submission was a contributing factor in the demise of their marriage," the legal document reads. White is now only allowed to contact Elson by email.
Elsewhere in the filing, White is depicted as an archetypal furious artist who thinks everyone is ripping him off. Supposedly, White wanted his children pulled from a class at their private school because he didn't want them around the child of another musician who he believed had "ripped off" his music. He was also enraged at Elson for attending the wedding of a "rival musician" who remains unnamed, according to the document.
UPDATE: Apparently The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach is the fellow musician Jack White has a problem with. In emails leaked to TMZ (ugh), White whines, "my concen with auerbach is because i dont want the kids involved in any of that crap. you aren't thining ahead. that's a possible twelve f**king years i'mg going to have to be sitting in kids chairs next to that a**hole with other people trying to lump us in together. he gets yet another freee reign to follow me around and copy me and push himself into my world (sic)."
It should be noted that from the outside, White's emails don't read as particularly threatening — salty, sure, but nothing out of the ordinary for sparring exes. He's no Mel Gibson. He doesn't even come close to an Alec Baldwin, either.
