Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux Separate After Two Years of Marriage
The couple split at the end of last year.
After seven years together, Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux have separated, according to the Associated Press.
Aniston's publicist announced the separation on Thursday, saying that the split "was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year." The decision to release a statement was an attempt to "reduce any further speculation."
The news also comes on the heels of a report that last weekend, Aniston celebrated her 49th birthday sans Justin.
"Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly," reads the release, which was issued by Aniston's longtime publicist, Stephen Huvane. "Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else’s fictional narrative. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another."
Aniston, 49, and Theroux, 46, insist that they are "two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship."
The couple was married in 2015, after a year of dating and a three-year engagement. Aniston and Theroux initially met on the set of the 2008 film, Tropic Thunder.
The Friends star was previously married to Brad Pitt from 2000 to 2005, while this was Theroux's first marriage.
Sad news all around.
We'll always be rooting for you, Jen.
