George Clooney Opens Up About Becoming a First-Time Dad (of Twins, No Less) at Age 55

In his first interview since the good news broke, Clooney was surprisingly honest.

The times, they are a-changin'.

George Clooney, whose successful, decades-long career has been as yet uninterrupted by the pitter patter of tiny little feet, is now expecting not one, but two babies. In his first interview since news broke that 55-year-old Clooney and wife Amal Alamuddin-Clooney were expecting twins, the actor was refreshingly honest about what an immense change was ahead for the couple.

During an appearance on Rencontres de Cinema, Clooney said, "We are really happy and really excited. It's going to be an adventure. We've sort of embraced it all ... with arms wide open."

The star went on to recall a recent outing during which friends who had been there, done that baby stuff took some jabs.

"My favorite part is, you know, all my friends who are my age, and I have many of them, they're already done. Their kids are all grown up and away to college and they are laughing," he said. "We went out to dinner the other night, and it's a table of eight guys and all their kids are away in college, and we are sitting there and they were all being very supportive, 'Everything is going to be great, you're going to love it,'" he continued. "Then it got really quiet, and they all just started making baby crying and the whole table just busted up laughing."

"It's going to change a lot of things, but that's OK," Clooney finished. "That's life."

In September, Clooney and legendary civil rights attorney Alamuddin celebrated their second wedding anniversary. Given the relatively beleaguered animal that is the celebrity marriage, Cloon couldn't help but poke fun at the twosome's romantic success.

"And they said it wouldn't last," he joked while hosting the annual "Night Under the Stars" benefit in Los Angeles. "Ah, we proved them wrong!"

The couple married in 2014 at the Aman Canal Grande resort in Venice, Italy. Close friends were present, including Matt Damon and wife Luciana Barroso and John Krasinski and Emily Blunt.
