Harry Styles Gets Candid About Failed Romance with Taylor Swift
Harry Styles is finally speaking out about ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift.
Long gone are the days of #Haylor, but they’ll forever live on in our memories.
What once seemed like a fairytale romance between mega-pop stars Harry Styles and Taylor Swift quickly spiraled into a hot mess of heartache. The One Direction crooner dated Swift from October 2012 to January 2013 and has remained mum about what really went down in the final stages of their failed relationship.
In the May issue of Rolling Stone, Styles finally opened up about the cons of dating in the public eye and how the media frenzy took a toll on his romance with Tay Tay.
“I think: Relationships are hard, at any age. And adding in that you don't really understand exactly how it works when you're 18, trying to navigate all that stuff didn't make it easier,” Styles recalled. “I mean, you're a little bit awkward to begin with. You're on a date with someone you really like." It should be that simple, right? It was a learning experience for sure…But at the heart of it, I just wanted it to be a normal date.”
There has been much speculation about the songs Swift penned for her last album, 1989. Both “Out of the Woods” and “Style” are believed to be about the former boy bander, and he clearly doesn’t mind if Swift drew inspiration from her experiences as music material.
“I mean, I don't know if they're about me or not…but the issue is, she's so good, they're bloody everywhere,” explained Styles. “I write from my experiences; everyone does that. I'm lucky if everything [we went through together] helped create those songs. That's what hits your heart.”
“That's the stuff that's hardest to say, and it's the stuff I talk least about,” Styles spilled to Rolling Stone. “That's the part that's about the two people. I'm never going to tell anybody everything.”
So does Styles admire Swift’s songs and did he ever tell her that?
“Yes and no. She doesn't need me to tell her they're great,” he stated. “They're great songs...It's the most amazing unspoken dialogue ever.”
Styles also reflected on what he took away from his relationship with Swift, and how he does not harbor any ill-will towards her.
“Certain things don't work out. There's a lot of things that can be right, and it's still wrong. In writing songs about stuff like that, I like tipping a hat to the time together. You're celebrating the fact it was powerful and made you feel something, rather than 'this didn't work out, and that's bad.' And if you run into that person, maybe it's awkward, maybe you have to get drunk...but you shared something,” added Styles. “Meeting someone new, sharing those experiences, it's the best s--t ever. So thank you.”
Who knows, maybe #Haylor will become friends and even make a duet in the future?! Now, that’s one collaboration we would definitely like to hear.
