'Pitch Perfect' Star Rebel Wilson Says She Gained Weight to Stand Out in Hollywood
'I saw my size as being an advantage,' Wilson shares.
Who doesn't love Fat Amy?
In a new interview with The Telegraph, Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson says she actually gained weight in order to gain notoriety in Hollywood, because bigger people were funnier to the public.
When she wrote her first play, she told the site, she cast another woman who was larger than she was. The audience loved her:
"And I was like: 'Oh. That girl’s getting a lot of laughs, a lot easier than me. What is it?' Because I don’t think there’s much difference in talent. And I remember distinctly thinking: 'I think it’s because she’s fatter'. And then, I don’t know if it was mega-conscious, but I thought: 'How can I get more laughs? Maybe if I was a bit fatter…' And then suddenly I was fatter, and doing comedy," she remembered.
"I saw my size as being an advantage, whereas so many women see it as a disadvantage," she added.
Wilson has seen massive success since her break-out role of Fat Amy in 2012's Pitch Perfect. Presently set to embark upon the third film in that franchise, she's also ready to tackle the drama genre. As she tells The Telegraph, she's set up her own production company in order to accomplish a certain goal:
"So, like, I have to transition into drama, because I can’t f***ing win an Oscar for Pitch Perfect 3, can I?"
Hmm, we're not so sure, Rebel. If anyone can do it, it would be you.
