If you’re not already sitting, please do yourself a favor and take a seat.

It’s been six painful years since the effervescent Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) resigned, but now Law & Order: SVU fans finally have a reason to squeal again. Turns out, there’s a possibility that Stabler will reunite with his on-screen partner, Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay).

In a new interview, Meloni confirmed that he’s open to returning the NBC procedural drama. “I have always said I would be open to it,” he said. “[The] circumstances have to be right, that is all.”

Listen, buddy, the circumstances for a Stabler and Benson reunion are always right. We just want to see these two detectives solving crimes and kicking ass together forever and ever.

“We will see [if I return for the series finale],” Meloni added. “It has never been brought up to me, so that is the kind of question that's kind of out of my hands.”

Clearly, the producers and writers of the show have to make the decision at this point. We all know where the fans stand. Here’s to hoping that our dream comes true! Of course, if a reunion does end up taking place, Stabler and Benson better get together. It’s about damn time.
