The former Tonight show host was in talks to appear on American Idol's "Idol Gives Back" charity episode, which will air April 21, but NBC won't stand for it.

Provisions agreed upon by Conan and NBC prevent him from appearing on television until May 1, and keep him from having his own show on the air until September. According to the Hollywood Reporter, NBC is sticking to its guns on the Idol appearance, keeping Conan from appearing on a show that has raised millions for various charities.

The planned appearance was unrelated to negotiations rumored to be in progress to bring Conan to Fox for a new late night talk show. He is currently preparing for his live 30-city comedy tour, which is being called "The Legally Prohibited from Being Funny On Television Tour."
